Title: Huma-Air Mod40-5/0 Moderator test 2, muzzle dB
Post by: Montana_AirGunner on July 18, 2024, 01:30:36 PM
Hi,

I was curious on how the Huma-Air Mod40-5/0 Moderator fairs up when you are testing the muzzle dB reading. I decided to test it out in the name of science and got pretty intresting results. I really do like the moderator and it is one of the most quietest ones.

DB readings were as follows:

Control group:
82,4db
82,1db
82,1db
80,2db
82,1db
avg = 81,78db

Huma-Air Mod40-5/0 Moderator:
80,3db
80,5db
80,3db
80,6db
80,4db
80,3db
avg = 80,4db

I know very little about moderators, but a 1.3db difference doesn't seem like a lot to me, whether it's at the and of the barrel of not.
Seems hardly worth the price of a moderator.

Hi,

There were some discussions in the past on how to measure the moderator dB reduction. In my other testing videos the ifference is much more noticable and it is more representative what you are hearing with your ear. Check that one out too. Moderators also have an increase in accuracy in most cases because it takes out the surrounding swirly air around the projectile leaving the end of the barrel. So theres many benefits on having a moderator on a PCP airgun.

I'm all for accuracy.  :)
