I'm going to do a full review on this rifle when I get it! I have older COMETA guns and some newer ones to compare it too, I only have 1 of my older 400'star compacts left in my collection, and it's about 15yrs old, and a 220c I've for about the same amount of time, these guns have served me well! and have been quite happy with them! 8)

Yesterday I ordered my 400 USC in .177 and the wood stock along with the tune and gold trigger upgrade. Ask him not to reduce power and if he can 1.5 lbs trigger

Good to hear Tim, I think these rifles are good guns, and a good value compared to HW guns! ;)

You can't tell that to a HW guy. I'm looking forward to the Cometa. I have three Dianas and three LG's but I still enjoy my B3's. I believe I'll enjoy this Cometa. Wonder what a 300 USC would be like. I have shot friend's 97's and 98's. Wish I'd got a 97 instead of the 470th and a 98 instead of the 56th. Back then they were about the same price. When I finally told Miss Baby what they cost, she said it was still less than my bar tab use to be back in the day.

They're actually even a hair nicer now too. I went through a few boxes and it looks like the gold metal trigger came with all of the USC guns pre-installed instead of the plastic trigger. Its a nice little upgrade and I need to update my website ASAP because I've already had to refund a few people who bought the trigger separately.

Very nice Air Rifle there.  Anybody know what that slot is for in the forearm.  I have those in the Ruger Airhawk's I have also.

Ultra Short Carbine. Its a 9" (ish) barrel with a metal moderator and about 41" total length

It allows clearance for the rear open sight adjust knob when the barrel is at full cock. It looks odd until you have a rifle WITH the rear open sight mounted and bend the barrel to full cock. Then it become very clear why the slot/relief is there.

Thanks Rudy, the 1 you have pictured is a Beech stock, I purchased a Walnut stocked version, I had a 400 S, years ago, it's the same basic rifle as the USC, I wish I had never sold that rifle, hindsight being 20/20, and a lot of years of tuning air guns I know how to hook up the COMETA"S with tune! now that Jon is selling these guns in the U.S. I'm buying another 400 USC, in .22cal, I would also urge anyone who is going to buy 1 though not needed but recommended for what Jon is tuning services cost, I would let Jon tune up the rifle out of the box JMO ;D ;)

I agree the wood stocks on these rifles look very nice. All steel and wood (and a coil spring! insert love/heart smiley here :P) are difficult for me to resist.

FYI... forgot I saved a couple photos here of another manufacturers slotted stock. Please ignore the excess FACTORY grease job.

I had never paid much attention to that slot but another member asked the same question a few years back. I looked at many of my break-barrels at that time (wood and plastic) and they mostly had similar stock cutouts. For a few minutes I was also thinking WHY???

Once the rifle is in-hand there is an ah-hah! moment. Pictures shows the reason nicely.

Good question!
Cheers :-)

Well, guys I decided to purchase some extra parts for the 4 COMETA rifles I currently have, I have been looking at the TITAN #12 spring as a replacement spring for my rifles, ARH no longer sells springs for the COMETA guns, but JM still offers piston seals! and I just purchased 4 more from him, buy them while you can if you want them Jim is pushing 80"s in age, so he won't be around forever! The TITAN springs are made of SWEEDISH steel! IMO you're not going to buy better spring steel IMO, 2 of the springs I ordered showed up today, after looking at them I purchased 4 more! from the Country Store out of England, 4 springs cost about $103 U.S. to my door! that's cheap! for good quality air gun springs! ;D ;)

The spring #12 is for the COMETA guns, I purchased 6 of them from Air gun Spares, The Country Store, there in the U.K. Cost was about $20 U.S. per spring 8)

Nope! their a full power spring! The factory spring for the 400 series is 36 coils of .120dia wire, the TITAN spring is 36 coils of .115dia wire, now just my thoughts here, were talking about 2 different spring makers, I can just about Guarente the TITAN, but I could be wrong about this? because it's made of SWEEDISH steel it may not need the .120dia wire to achieve full power? and even if the TITAN doesn't produce the power of the factory spring? it's going to last a whole lot longer! and give a smoother shot cycle if tuned correctly IMO, Here's the kicker, the TITAN spring #12 is supposed to work for the COMETA 100, 220, 300, and 400 series rifles, it is very obvious this spring is not going to fit my 220 compacts! it about 6 coils to long! so, I'm going to have to cut the spring to make it work in the smaller tube size COMETA rifles, but it should be a direct drop in fit for a 400 series rifle! the Packaging says its a full power spring, and warns about making a U.K. gun over the power limit! and for $20 dollars a spring I don't care! I probably going to detune my new rifle at some point to 12ftlbs or less any way! Because I do not need any more power than that! people way underestimate the power of a 12ftlb spring gun! ;)

I just orderd mine tuned from keystone, and once you get it all together let me know how it works compated to factory. I went to that site and couldn't find the springs for some reason. Here is the stock for mine...

According to Maccari (his site), his father was born in 1934. So I don't think Jim is pushing 80. More like 70.
