After having the 880 seal conversion kit market all to myself for over 4 years, an enterprising ebayer is using
a similar design in rebuilding 880's for resale.
He claims that he "replaced all the seals with factory Daisy seals and updated the chamber seal abutment seal holder to a design
that I (he) developed at my shop to take the new style chamber seals that are available from Daisy . The Vintage chamber seals are no longer available from Daisy . Daisy chamber seal kits from Daisy are only 1.00 each, not 19.99 for one old style seal from ebay."
Although the concept is nothing original, I do take exception that he claims to have developed it himself (I had sold him a few kits a couple years ago...) I hold no patent on the design, and don't believe I could have received one had I applied, as the design is pretty obvious.
It appears that he just makes the abutment button, and it does not appear to have the convex face rim that allows contact between abutment and pump piston faces. This results in headspace that reduces efficiency......
He also re-uses other original Daisy parts including the spring, which is difficult to assemble over the larger inner seal lip.
He is not as yet offering this adapter for sale, and hope that he does not do so.
I guess imitation is the highest form of flattery; I just wish he would give credit where credit is due, rather than claiming it for himself...

Upon a deeper look, he is not machining the seal abutment adapter from scratch....
He is merely cuts the stub off the current seal abutment.
He "developed" this after "many hours of trial and error to arrive at a design that works."
THis is an inperfect solution, for a couple of reasons:
1. The coil spring will not directly migrate from old to new, or new to old.
The spring supplied from Daisy is large enough to fit over the seal inner lip, but is then too large to nest
properly into the O-ring backup washer.
Or, if the original 880 spring is used, it is too small ID to easily fit over the sel inner lip.
It is doable, but not so much for many owners who would install the seals themselves.
2. The face of the new style abutment has a square corner. This stops the abutment at the edge of
the retaining groove in the pump tube. This will allow for about .080" of dead space between the piston anf the abutment.
If a small dimple in the current piston face hurts performance, inagine what a .530" dia x .080" gap will do.......
The design is fairly obvious, but has shortcomings.
I hope he does not plan on marketing his "design..."

I have not messed with an 880 yet. If I ever venture down that road my first message would be to you Ron.
