Title: Now this is an adult bb gun
Post by: bantam5s on April 02, 2024, 12:40:45 AM
I've never heard of it before but the gun sure is interesting.

It's so interesting that I kind of want one, but I'm not sure it's really my kind of gun and I'll probably talk myself out of it.
I've kind of been thinking I'd like a Crosman v350, and if I find a nice example at a good price It'll keep me from buying one of these.

Pricy for a bb gun, and very strange "cocking" lever "thingy" in the pics on Pyramid's site (didn't watch the vid).

Pics are very carefully selective, nothing about country made, presume China, and reviews on accuracy are hit and miss - and hit is an inch at 13 yards IIRC from reading? That and my experience with Diana is ALL 100% negative, I'd have to say the above and pricing reinforces, at least for me, nothing has changed where they are concerned.

Sorry to wet on your parade David, just gotta call it like I see it  :-\

Oh, that shroud looking thing on the back of the receiver looks like it's plastic too, but the filling cup looks like a nice touch, just not a $200 list price make-up item... Heavy cocking force for 400 fps max spec? Not sure on that one. Oops, I'm rambling again...

Thanks for the video Dave I really enjoyed watching it! My question is there no way to mount better sites? I like the concept but at 76 years old my eyes need a little help. I can shoot with open sites if there is a way to mount a peep of some kind? Fun video, thanks

The Oktoberfest rifle is pretty popular here in Europe. Made in China indeed. They are hard to get as well, as they are always sold out.

The cocking system is like the Haenel 310 ones. This system has been developed for East German army soldier practicing and is very much a proven system.

If you can get one, you should go for it. Though remember, this airgun has been developed for short range shooting. Here you still see them often being used on fairs with sub 5 yards shooting.

they are made in china indeed, as they are part of RWS new sportline. They are a throwback to the older schutzenfest guns, as said, like the haenels. They are smooth but the only thing is that they are rifled barrels that shoot round ball only, as you cant load pellets. and notice that i said round ball and not BB, as the size is a bit different, like the haenels (how many times have you found a haenel with a BB jammed inside the mag, stuck there forever)? lol. they shoot their own proprietary round ball, which is not as economical as our locally bred BBs... and at 400 fps... well, a red ryder with a Cobalt kit will shoot that and then some. (heck, try putting a RR spring on your 499... you will be yeeping and hollering with every shot!)

I believe this version is actually 4.5mm shooting standard BB's?

Yeah overall I still think the gun is very interesting but have not yet been tempted to actually buy one and it's not looking like I'll actually be tempted enough to buy one.

it is 4.5mm but our standard BBs are smaller than that and that kills its accuracy... i think BB pelletier did a review. Its an interesting read.

Actually you can shoot .176 cal copper BB's with it only (like the Haenel's do as well).

Tom Gaylord did a good review on this rifle.  I wouldn’t mind having one but they are made in china and I am done with stuff made there.

I still like the V350.  Had one when I was a kid.  I have one that I need to go through yet.

New to the bb thing, I have to know, why the excitement over the RR spring in a 499? I just got a 499 and enjoy it but...i usually cant help myself and love to tinker.

That would be because the RR has more velocity than the 499.
I personally like it's particular low power level as is though.

WOW! did anyone caught the fact that Hans says that there is a US specific version that shoots the 4.5 mm BBs that we use here?
