Title: Air Venturi spring compression tool
Post by: MTScott on March 04, 2024, 03:15:29 PM
New to working on break barrel rifles. I am researching a PG4 Steel tune kit installation. Will a Air Venturi spring compression tool work on a Diana 350 Mag rifle? Still searching through threads and google looking for information. Any help is appreciated.

You know Scott (welcome to the GTA),
I paid $20 for parts and made mine (below) from scrap wood in the garage.  The Air Venturi spring compression tool looks too expensive/wimpy ........ keep in mind a D350 has a substantial spring to compress.

Sorry to Hijack, I'm on the same adventure also. Yours is really solid lookin can you possibly list the materials you used to do this? And from the size of it it's recommended in a separate area? Is it portable?

The short answer is yes, the AV spring compressor is strong enough for the D350. Otoh, may be pricey for a one time use.
There is lots of information on GTA for diy spring compressors. For example check out the thread "Show Me Your Home Made Spring Compressor".
In that thread is a spring compressor utilizing all thread and pvc pipe. It is a fugly thing based on the Air Venturi compressor. It is also the basis for my compressor which uses smaller all thread and pvc. My spring compressor works on a D460 (very close to your350 specs).
Regardless of the type compressor you choose, you will likely need to fashion an adapter that buffers or clears the D350 safety when pressure is applied. The Diana safety is likely plastic. I attached a photo of an adapter I made for the D54. It is nothing more than a chunk of wood with a cavity cut out to clear the safety. Looks like the original poster used styro foam which would be even easier.

I am very early into figuring this out. Appreciate all the replies.

There are different means for compressing the spring and most work fine if you press against the trigger pack and not the safety.  I do not like to use a compressor attached to the scope rails as the scope rail is riveted onto most Diana rifles.  If the rivets are stretched the scope rail will no longer be solid.  Some people use a Groz sash clamp as a spring compressor.  I made my own before I learned about the Groz.  Mine is attached to give you ideas.
