Title: S.S.S.
Post by: Hoosier Daddy on February 25, 2024, 10:23:46 AM
Secret Squirrel Society...
I want to post an introduction.
 This morning events.

I was going to clean the garage today.
Shtuff piled on the chest freezer needs put away.
Looking in the chest freezer,  I found Bluegill fillets in the freezer to thaw.
But the big Cast iron skillet is in the camper.
The camper needs a new awning.
Looking for my tool box to repair the awning, it is in the truck.
Truck is dirty so the Dawg an I went to the car wash.
Car wash is next to the Farm Store.
Dawg needs treats and they love her there.
The store has a gun counter, and I can always use ammo.
Bluegill for supper, truck is clean, Dawg is happy, and I can shoot more.

But... the garage still needs cleaning and the camper needs an awning.

I'm probably the worlds biggest procrastinator when it comes to just about everything but fun projects like working on an airgun.

I need to clean up / out my man cave hobby work room and clean off the work desk out there ( don't get me started on the garage/ shop ) but every time I find a project to work on and just end up making the whole mess worse.

Can’t really talk about missions too much, but most of mine result in supply runs to Home Depot or similar locations.

My lack of focus and short term memory lapses are mostly chemically induced due to my fondness for recreational pharmaceuticals.  As such I'm afraid I just don't qualify for the S.S.S.  I'd feel like a fraud associating with y'all who selflessly sacrificed cognitive function to head injuries, over work, stress, or parenthood.

Dang. . . . . .

Now where was I going with this? :o

I had to clean my new work bench pile of @#$% area to start working on the pp800r only to realize it's fully aired up and too dark to shoot.  Memsahib nearly killed me the last time I dry fired an AG to empty.  Now will I remember why it's on the work bench tomorrow....

That’s what it means in my neck of the woods, too. Sometimes it’s backhoes instead of shovels.

I am kinda like Scott, to many irons in the fire and not enough time to cook. Lately I have become the worlds worst for getting things done that need to be done or projects that have been dragged out forever that need finishing.

Today was a rare good secret squirrel scenario.. I went out to haul piles of leaves and pine needles out into the trail to fill in low spots and mud holes. That lead to shrub and bush removal that Betty Lou has been wanting to do since we got here. We got about half way done when our old bodies gave up. This is one project that Betty Lou will make sure we see through to the end.

Bill, I started out with the gate build (project 1), then the rains came, so I decide to rebuild one shed(project 2) to finish the gate. Needed 3 pieces of  tin, well that turned into project 3 because I had clean out around the pile to get it out, then reorganize into a neat, manageable pile. While I had that strewed all over yard, I needed the lumber out of it as well to fix the utility trailer(project 4) Finally restacked the whole mess. Now I am back to project 2 and more rain, so it's fill in the floor now(project 5). So right now project 3, 4, and 5 are complete. Project 2 is almost complete and Project 1 is on hold until Project 2 is complete. I am on Project 6 today, rewiring the utility trailer and hopefully by the end of the week Project 2 can be completed. Unless something throws a monkey wrench in things.

LOL Kris...
After a shower and lunch we went back out to put the tools away for the day. When that was done I was led back to the lawn chairs I was sitting in first thing this morning where I was plinking cans with a bb gun making the plan for the day. I sat down, picked up the bb gun and finished the day as if nothing else happened. Full circle.   ;)

Wendell, I have been retired 1 year and 2 months and been wide open from day 1. Already looking to take leave of this mess for a few days and go somewhere for a change of scenery. I will eventually get it all worked out and go back to working on my guns and my art work. Just tying up the last few loose ends and other obligations I had before I retired.

Sunday I forgot I'm getting old and worked on my better half's car. Got reminded yesterday, ibuprofen all day and still paying dues today.

10 years ago I was smart enough to take a few ibuprofen BEFORE the job...

So I've been planning my retirement for the last 5.5 years and I have 5.5 to go.  I have started my remote engineering job "part time" and have it structured to roll into "full time" when I leave the guberment/municipal service.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

This mornings scenery.
Camper is needing a new awning and even though I bought the materials. it is more than I can handle alone. So I have an appointment at a local repair shop.
Went to hook up but it is filthy so a wonderful Saturday. I might as well pressure wash it.
The powered jack needed a new fuse holder last fall... I bought one but can't find it now. ::)
OK.. no worries, I "hot wired" it and got it onto the truck hitch.
Now onto the pressure washer was buried deep in the shop.
Christmas decore and motorcycle parts in the way... oh wait...
MOTORCYCLE parts... the (new to me) old BSA triple parts needed consolidated.
*Still searching for that new fuse holder*
Why do I have 4 sets of allen wrench's scattered around?
Oh yes... Pressure washer... OK, Garden hose ... outdoor spigot was leaking bad. I need to replace the packing.
Pressure washer won't start even with fresh gas. Thinking starter fluid will help after the long winter slumber, but I need to get some.
I can get that when I buy the second fuse holder. :P
As long as I am there might as well pock up the 1/8" cable ferules fot hanging my gongs.
I need to mow.
Great morning to shoot, and Dawg needs "Aired Out" so we need to go for a walk.
But the Camper needs a new awning.

I don't even know what I went to the shop for this morning but I did manage to put new wood grips on one of my mold handles and wrap the wire on a laser with a phone cord like coil. Only reason they got done is because I found them while looking for something else.... whatever that was.  :o
Then Betty Lou called me in for breakfast and when that's done I get to start the process all over again.

Not sure if this qualifies a SSS but yesterday I spent a full 45 minutes looking for my glasses. I got thirsty so I walked to the fridge for something to drink. I opened the door and there they were! My glasses were chilling in the fridge.... no idea how or why they were there. In any case, I put them on with a sigh of relief but... I couldn't see clearly!  At long last I realized I was wearing my contact lenses... duhhh!

I've got a real good SSS moment. I'm looking through my tool bag I keep in the house for a special wrench to adjust a baby gate we use to keep the dogs out of the bedroom. A few minutes in while continuing to search I forget what I'm looking for. 🤔😁😁

We don-t have squirrels here so i can-t aspire to the S S.S club but at least in my part of Manakau the same troubles play out as you all relate . There has to be an Atua responsible.
It can not possibly be age because my next birthday I will be 18.

At long last I realized I was wearing my contact lenses... duhhh!
Do that one alot...cheers

If I live long enough I won’t know anything at all! :o

The Amazon Carburetor is on the lawnmower but in a true SSS moment I found the mounting bolt on floor after running to local hardware store and mounting with new bolt....but of course the bolt to clamp the throttle cable is no where to be found so another trip to hardware store for a $1 part tomorrow....

But wait there's more.....
After turning the mancave upside down searching I received my 3 pack of fill probes about two weeks ago from China ...yesterday on the shelf in front of the monitor the ziplock minibag with the Notos fill probe and SST decided to stop hiding in plain sight like a ghillie-suit sniper...squirrel

Why was there a 1⁄2-13 X 1-1/2" grade 5 bolt and lock washer on my computer keyboard this morning?

Or it's a sign of something bigger that is fixin' to come undone or it has come undone and it's your turn to fix it.

They're there because you found them in some dusty, neglected corner while looking for something else yesterday that you needed right away but forgot about because finding the OLD items knocked you off course.

And then when you accidentally find the recent looked-for parts as you search for a third newly-dropped part, you'll put THOSE on the computer keyboard.

And then...the sequence continues onward ad infinitum!

I have plastic bags that contain found nuts and bolts of unknown origin. Just in case I notice something that's missing such a piece.

Did you know some people facing retirement actually worry they will be bored and have nothing to do?
   lol
I can get tired reading all your chores.. ;D ;D
Kris, hope you find some time to shoot!

Are the ones needing work on your list? (How many). I just tried to figure that one out myself, along with "discovering" which ones I like best...

Yes, most of the repairs are maintenance type repairs. Just few guns mostly the older ones like the Discovery, 1377, 1322, and so on. I am kind of in the middle of getting the van back on the road which has been a SSS moment from the get go. I like all of mine even though I have a few that have drove me nuts with performance but I still shoot them for plinking and nothing more.

S.S.S.? Oh, I thought you meant Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up. I know that one, don't know no secret squirrel stuff.
