Title: Received my beautiful Flying Dragon, MM tuned XS46U. BIG gun to me and handsome
Post by: Tallbald on February 01, 2024, 01:48:39 PM
Thanks to Mike this rifle arrived in pristine condition. Double boxed with great care, rifle bagged and cushioned inside.
This rifle is I think the largest and heaviest air rifle I've handled. Heven't been able to shoot it yet because of weather, it may get tried out this afternoon.
I plan to remove the XS46U stock and recontour it to thin the forearm and pistol grip to better fit my medium size hands. Do similarly to what I did for my wood stock Benji 392 seen below.
Range report hopefully to follow next few weeks folks.

I was able to try my MM -tuned XS46U in the yard a bit ago. Too cold and windy as yet for sighting in plus I need to mount the Tasco 4X and get ready. But. Trigger seems very nice. A little take-up with a crisp let-off.
Curious about the power level but not having my chrono set up, I tried the old-school 3/4 inch kiln dried white pine board test. At 1 foot, using Crosman Premier HP (least expensive pellets I have), the 14.3 grain pellets blew out the back of the board. Shot into a 1 inch dried white pine board, cut sectioned the hole, and found 7/8 inch of penetration. Mercy I didn't really expect that much but I'll take it. Hoping the proper pellet gives good squirrel accuracy plus.
This rifle has no shot twang, and a good healthy shake reveals no rattle, bump or squeaks emanating from the rifle. It feels very very solid to me. Eager to shoot for velocity and accuracy soon, I'll share what I find here.
Tried to post a couple photos but it says my files are too large. Harumph.
Good things wished for folks. Don.

Keep us posted. Hopefully a forever keeper. It's a model I've admired, and flying dragon fully tuned is a great deal. I've not used an underlever springer. Wonder how it chronos with the 14.3 CHP.

Remember, its going to noticeably smooth out after a tin of pellets are run thru it. Don't use your good pellets just yet...

Good points. Mike suggested about 200 break-in rounds, and I thought it best to use the Walmart pellets by Crosman. Holding onto my JSB, HN, RWS and AA pellets for serious testing. I share findings. Thanks! Don

I wouldnt just waste the crosmans... after 50 or so shots, clean the barrel and group them... Imagine your 46 likes crosman cheapie 14.3 best? that would be a great gun... good luck!

Grin. That would indeed be a nice finding. And an excellent suggestion. Don
