Title: Trimming the herd
Post by: ev-in-az on January 22, 2024, 01:18:29 PM
I find myself in need of reducing my air gun inventory.

I have several C9a,397, 392 Crosman multi pumps.

My question is are these selling and what kind of prices are they going for.

Thanks for any help.

If I was looking I'd be looking in the $100 - $150 range on those guns. I know there will be others that say they are worth more. The problem for me is today's shipping costs. When I look at what a gun would cost me to own I have to look at the total cost including shipping.

Agreed!  Today's shipping costs are obscene!

I can think of 8 or 10 guns I would be willing to sell right now but in order to make them attractive to potential buyers I have to consider shipping costs. Even if I sell them + shipping (buyer pays shipping) I still have to price them low enough to attract a buyer. At today's shipping costs I would most likely have to sell them at a considerable loss.
Others have suggested these discount shippers such as pirateship... I just can't make myself comfortable with those options.
So every time I think about reduce the arsenal all this goes through my mind until I land on.... well, they ain't costing me nothing to just keep them.
I recently wanted a new gun so I went through my PB guns and took a real look at what I had and what I shot. First thing I did was pull out the guns that are actually of use to me. I narrowed it down to 3 that were duplicates or just something I couldn't come up with a scenario where it was my only option. I took those guns to a local gun shop and told him how much I wanted. Maybe I could have asked for more but I knew I wouldn't take less. The man handed me what I asked for in cash and I walked out happy.

I just used Pirate Ship for the second time.
First (almost a year ago) was an airgun dumped in my lap that I couldn't repair. or get parts for.
That went out to the state of Washington.
Pirate Ship is a "shipping broker" in that they will find you the best deal
We just shipped a large square box to my step-son in Ohio.
Again Pirate Ship got us a deal.
So far both times we shipped UPS, ALOT cheaper than USPS by half

It’s almost not even worth selling anything unless sold locally.

I am about 100 323 miles away, My GPS says 98 miles to Pasadena 323 to Tempe, AZ from my place. I am not looking to buy anyway. I am NO good at selling anything, I can talk people out of buying things I have that they want though. That's not very useful to me.  ::)

OOPS  Tempe, AZ

I sell one of my Sheridans every now & then. These bring more than your rifles that you list. Shipping costs are determined by weight, size of box, & distance . One good thing about these rifles is that they can be broken down easily into 2 parts. This reduces the length of a box, thus reducing the cost. I ship almost everything with the Postal Service, Priority Mail or ground

Cost coast to coast = $28- $40

I was looking for posts on selling tips/ideas, and this post seems close... I am also looking at culling the herd (to justify adding a BT65 .30). What I have is low end items such as a Hatsan Mod87 and Crosman Mag-Fire, and a couple of CO2 pistols. I'm not expecting to get much for them, but to me that's better than them collecting dust. I could post in the classifieds here or check if the local pawn shop (which does trade air guns) will offer anything. Can anyone suggest any other methods for selling/trading? Maybe Ebay? Does anyone know the easiest way to find what states it's okay to ship to?

PyramydAir has their shipping restriction list on their faq page.

Look at "Are there any shipping restrictions?"  https://www.pyramydair.com/faq (https://www.pyramydair.com/faq)

Best and cheapest way is probably list them
Here but that could be a hit and miss. Shipping is an expense you have to consider so don’t forget PirateShip.com I’ve sold stuff here and also stuff has just sat here as well as eBay.  eBay is ridiculous with their fees. I’ve given my cheap stuff away quite a bit because making $30 on a gun to me isn’t worth it I’d rather make someone happy and make some room. I’m not suggesting you do that but that’s what I do. Anyway I’ve thinned the herd 3 times only to the fill the void again lol.

Plus another one for pirate ship, its free to sign up for an account and you get quite a bit cheaper shipping through UPS or USPS than regular.  About 20$ to ship a stock from MS to Washington State and the UPS calculator was showing about 40$

This is where I am shipping is a hassle and expensive. I have 3-4 guns I would move if I could sell locally.
For the record I had foot surgery 3 weeks ago and very limited on getting out so I'm setting here looking at stuff
Honestly  I would be happy with  my Benjamin 392 & 397 my Blue streak and my Hatsan 65 and 95 and getting a wood stocked Hatsan in 177.  I have a Diana 34 in 177 Benjamin NP2 trail  in 22 and a Walter Parrus in.177  that I don't shoot much .
Just for information I listed a shotgun on another forum face to face only . It sat for a year then the other day I got a message on it and the guy drove 4.5 hours for it

If I ever sell I'd rather do it in person, let them actually shoot it first, then try and talk me into selling it ;)

Just sold something like 11 guns between here and AGN and also just messaging folks I sold to. Easy

I always keep the herd at 5 airguns max (air pistols excluded, well that is one, since I am not a pistolero).

If I want something new, that means something else will need to leave.

At the moment the herd is trending towards PCP only and I will have to create a void for a .25 caliber PCP  ;D
