Title: DIY-RVA?
Post by: ray1377 on January 03, 2024, 08:46:31 PM
Mr. Bob
If this is in the wrong gate I do apologize. I just know you have done a great deal of work with co2 guns and thought you might have the best input. If I build my own RVA for a 2240 stubby I'm working on, I understand you trim the factory spring to get a higher shot count while using less co2 per shot. I was curious if I build my RVA that is a bit longer than the norm, can I leave the factory hammer spring its original length as long as my adjustment screw is not touching or adding any extra pressure to the spring? I want to have some adjustment but didn't want to shorten the factory spring in case I need to swap some parts around and go a different route. Sorry about the picture, its not anywhere near scale, just something I threw together quickly.

Thanks
Ray

Yep, that should work.... You would be even better off if you make an SSG, using the factory spring.... This stops the spring before the hammer contacts the valve stem, allowing the hammer to free-flight to open the valve.... It can be adjusted to reduce the power, and gets rid of hammer bounce, which conserves CO2....

In particular, check out Reply # 722 of Page 37.... over 600 FPE on a single CO2 cartridge (with a 24" barrel).... Here is a comparison between a simple RVA and the original version of the SSG....

There are many variations on the SSG, you can find a summary of (most of) them in Reply #355 on Page 18....

Here is my original work on CO2 efficiency....

and here is a challenge I issued to get the most efficiency out of a stock 7.5" barrel on a 2240....

I hope you can glean something from these threads....

Thank you Mr. Bob
That was just what I was needing for my build.

Thx
