Hear ye... Hear ye!
Come one, come all... Casual Match #3 of 2023/2024 is open for business!!!
The Casual Match is a fun match. Shoot whatever you want at 10M (more or less depending on what you have available), use any position or rest that you prefer. See below for the details.
Rules are the same as for the 50’ Casual Match, except distance is 10M instead of 50’, using the 50’ target of choice. If you are limited to distance, shoot at whatever distance you have available. Classes are PCP Rifle, Jumper (Piston Rifle, spring or gas), Pistol, and adding a requested Pumper Class. One entry may be made in each class.
Due to the Holidays, the match #3 will run 3 weeks... through Sunday, 1/7/24.
The 50’ rules and targets may be found at:
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114644.0
Please include the following information with your entry:
Call name or real name
PCP, Jumper, Pumper or Pistol Class
Air rifle or Pistol used
Sighting system
Pellet and caliber
Shooting position and/or aid(s)
Score
Pic of the target shot please

??? Were we going to separate pumpers as another class?

??? Were we going to separate pumpers as another class?
Yes you are right, I forgot to add that class.
I will edit the above post to include them.
-
8) Ill get to pumping then :)
-
Puffers (PCP)
Gassers (C02)
Jumper (Break barrel)
and Pumper (ummm Pumpers)
I can dig it.
I suppose all need to be separated in rifle and pistols as well.
-
I started learning how to use a peep sight and thought I would include it in the Match 3 attempt.
Class: PCP
Gun: Daisy 853
Sight : Peep Sight
Position: Sitting, shoulder held, front bag rested
Ammo : RSW R 10 Match
Score : 180 with 4 Xs
Ron
Score should be 180 I wrote the first one down wrong. (I think)

Bill: "You're killing me Smalls"!!
A "gasser" is a Pre Charged Pneumatic (PCP) just not a HPA. As is a "pumper", I just added that by popular demand. Now should I add a Single stroke and Multi-pump in individual classes?
A "jumper" is any springer, either coil or gas sprung, break barrel, side lever, under lever. Doesn't matter.
A pistol is it's own category no matter how powered.
-
Nice target Ron!
That new 853 is getting in the groove.

LOL... ya got me twisted Brah... I was just wondering how far we needed to go. I thought the platform and gun was already supposed to be listed with each submission.
-
Thinking of going back to the original format.
Quite simple....
Jumper (spring powered)
PCP (Pre Charged Pneumatic) no matter how charged.
Pistol. (that is the little thing you hold in one hand

That 853 is starting to settle in with you. That's a good target for iron sights.
Something you may want to try . . . Attach your target to a piece of cardboard with a glue stick or push-pins. Your wadcutter will leave a clean round hole making scoring easier. Any cardboard box will work, and a cereal box front is nearly perfect. Experiment a bit and see what works best for you.

Nice shooting Ron. Told you peeps are fun! Scott, KISS I think. Especially for a fun match. Finally quit raining yesterday afternoon. Soon as the lake formerly known as my yard subsides going to do some shooting. Merry Christmas everyone.

Just my 2c- spray adhesive is the Tkt. Spray your cardboard, then put your target print out on it.
Nice shooting Ron, since you used your 853, I’ll do the same this round.

Nice shootin' with that 853, Ron.
-
I like pumpers as a 4th category. Then that's complex enough for now. Fun shooting casually and we got a couple pumpers in the mix [chuckling].
-
Printing targets, I notice making an adjustment for "actual size" is important.

I sure like peeps over notch and post that's for sure. Point of aim is centering the point of aim in side the circle instead of lining up
the top of the post with the top of the notch.... centering that between the notch equally and then putting the point of aim
on top of both *lollipop*. That's just too complicated and too many variables to check.
Good luck peeping this round.

#90 card stock works well for me
90lb card stock... will it work in most printers?
I worked in a wholesale printing shop for 14yrs long before home printers were common.
I changed careers just when they started to hit the market.
If it will feed through my printer it should work perfectly.

It's worked with any printer I've owned. My current one is a printer/copier/scanner and I have a card stock copy of most all the targets I use. I put the original in the scanner and make my copies from them. They seem to print faster that way... on mine anyways.

I have the same kind of scanner as well.
In the next few days I'm going to try Staples and see if they carry any in stock.
I like this idea.

I'm sure they do.. I normally get it at Walmart. I bet one could find it cheap on Amazon and add it to their next order. Might even be something that would put an order over the $35 free shipping minimum. ;)
-
I found some on Amazon, but my hyper link won't show up in my post.
Does anyone know why?
Anyway, it's there and it just around $12 for 300 sheets.
Ron

I buy the 100# Georgia Pacific brand from Walmart and it has fed OK in two printers I have had.

I have a Brother Multifunction Laser printer and I have to feed the #90 card stock manually. It jambs when I use the tray. I got my on Amazon for $12.00 for 300 sheets.

Ron, that the same one I got if your going to try to use your tray test it 1st. When I tried that it grabbed more than one sheet and jammed the printer up. Had to take it apart to get it cleared. When doing manual feed is I was to slow it would grab paper from the bin and the manual feed too. Another jamb. I set the printer to manual feed then it just beeps when there's no paper. Just and FYI YMMV

Mine only has the tray to feed from.
But I'll only put one in the tray and see how that works.
Mine is the Canon TR4720 3 in 1.
I might have to staple the target to the card stock.

Thanks. I shot the bulls left to rite and top to bottom. Can you tell where I started loosing my focus? I shoot a lot of paper but mix it up with reactive targets or change guns every few shots.

I find that if it's taking too long to find that 'feel good' point to pull the trigger, then I loose focus and the target
and sight blend into one image and I just quit and start over.

Ron, you're on the right track by stopping, then starting over.
Sounds like you're focusing too long and hard on the front sight. Remind yourself to blink often, as that keeps your eyes moist. Also, it's a good idea to keep some water close by, that way you can take a drink after every few shots to stay hydrated.

I think if the hole is touching the black dot it's a "10", if there's a white space between the hole and the black dot center then it's a "9".
If the center dot is completely gone, it's an "X" = "10" but comes in handy if there's a tie in the score.
At least that's the way I understand it.

Oh, were we supposed to report the number of pumps? For the record I was doing 5 but I think I'll reduce that starting at 3. 100 strokes, even with the DF2, was a little taxing and possibly affected some of my shooting.
I think I'll spend this week practicing.

Nice shooting fellas. Weather this weekend kept me out. Rained 4” in about 4 hours Friday night so there was a lake where my range used to be, then 30+ mph winds Sunday. The 50+ mph winds and then rain yesterday kept me from shooting anything for Match 4! If you saw the CFP pre-game you saw what we got when they sent everyone inside.

This might explain what a reflex sight is and how it works. https://shootingmystery.com/reflex-sight-vs-red-dot/ (https://shootingmystery.com/reflex-sight-vs-red-dot/)

Thank you (seriously). I had no idea so many kinds of sights existed. Really nice to know that some of them might even be useable with astigmatism.
And...at first glance, I thought you had shot that target sheet with a rifle. Very nice indeed, something to aspire to!

That's some impressive p17 free standing shooting, Ron! Dang!

Thanks, Rion.
I think this little gun doesn't get the respect it deserves, outside of the good trigger.
Until now, I had been plinking and targeting at 50' so it's pretty dialed in.
A lot of it was luck, though, but I'll take it.
