Title: Huben Pistol in Da house,.....long term review.
Post by: Nomadic Pirate on December 06, 2023, 08:57:08 AM
Sorry I don't do those sexy YouTube review, but what I do is take you into a journey slowly giving you a bunch of data, a lot of pictures, mods and my personal take on things.

Today I spent a lot of time shooting my .25 ( I shot Billy's two .25s before )

As I did before I can just say that this pistol is amazing and I absolutely love it.

About the loading gate :

Today was the first time I used the factory one, and I found it just fine since I have to go get pellets out the tin one at a time and as I do that I rotate the cylinder with my left hand.

I already started re-shaping the grip,...first pictures will come when that is done.

Set the power so I get 6 shots from 250 BAR to 200 BAR, an other 5 to 150 BAR with the JSB MK II.....will eventually chono that.

Thanks boys, I haven't bought a gun in a looong time and not been this excited about a gun for even longer.

I thing I don't like is that this shipment came with the new style wrap on the tube so I will either have to replace it or paint it black,....but that is such a minor matter.

I do have an excess of high quality carbon fiber automotive vinyl that matches the OE CF, I used to match my LDC with the tube. If you want a section let me know.

Thanks my friend, I also have a bunch of Auto carbon fiber wrap that I was going to use on my bike but didn't,....wander if it's gonna be easier to just paint over the current one,....will it stick ?

I'll be following this thread.

I'm a ways off from buying any new PCPs, but this is a Halo airgun.

I'd need more than a Halo for Betty Lou to sign off on spending that much money on any airgun.

I keep forgetting to save up for one, but I'll do it eventually  :(

Fantastic!!! Glad you got it!!

I’ve not looked close but since it is already just a cf look wrap, if it’s anodized (and dyed) underneath, could it be unwrapped?

So today I spent the day shooting the EunJin 43gr,..IMO they shoot better then the JSB MK II and they hit very hard.

Fit the magazine perfectly but you cannot make them click like you do with the MK IIs so if you loading the mag muzzle down they will slide into the barrel and not let you turn it, if you keep the gun level all is good and zero jams just like when I shot Billy's guns.

I gave one more quarter turn on the power adjuster and boy those pellets are hitting hard.

did some more shaping on the grip and I'm almost there.

Took the shroud off today and could not find a seam on the wrap

Absolutely, trying to get some info if someone tried the 38gr   .254

If I hear nothing I will probably get some anyway  ;D

I got 25 NSA slugs here if you want them. No idea of the size or weight.
They Mic at .248 or so.

Thanks Jeff but the Huben needs bigger slugs that is why the 38gr .254 is the one to get,.....but much thanks for the offer.

Ho yeah I have a bunch of NSA .25 in the house, I still might give them a shot with a bunch of other bullets I have,.....but the EunJin 43gr sure is super sweet out this pistol.

Well example :

The Ataman pistol, looks fantastic really nice and at 1000 bucks way cheaper then the Huben pistol but at 14-18 FPE side lever and only .22 never I could spend that cash......fast forward to the Huben pistol, possible 80 FPE  :o easy tune down to 10-15 ? and that takes no time, Semi-Auto and still the same size of the Ataman didn't even think of the price, worth every single penny.

Huben literally hit it out da park.

Compelling arguments, all of them.

Pistol-wise, I'm saving for a Tequila, but a pint-sizer firecracker like that Huben would be perfect for Sonja.  I'm a little concerned she'd need to run it tethered with a back-pack full of slugs just to keep up with her "pull the triggeritis" she displays when she shoots her Lelya :D  A semi-auto slug-thrower with that type of flexibility and power range is pretty darn awesome.

Today as I went to get the Carbon Fiber wrap I found a roll of Black matte wrap that is even thinner then the CF I have so I tested putting it on a galvanized pipe and it went on great and reacted better to the heat then the thicker CF one,

So I will 100% will use it to cover the awful wrap on the pistol,....matter of fact I will also wrap the Blued airtube on my remaining Rainstorm.

Question now to those more informed then me :

How much heat can those Titanium tubes take ?

.....Thanks

Great thing about the Huben pistol is that it's a breeze to detune, literally seconds.

so if you get a .22 and detune it to 15 FPE with the 14.3gr pellets I'm sure you'll get a ton of shots out of one fill

Good to hear the eujins work great IIR I have some to try in .22 I really want to try my cast BBT slugs next though :)
As far as heat and the air tube, if for the wrap it should be fine with 180 degrees if tube is low on pressure.

I think carbon fiber wrap generally makes things look kind of cheap especially when it’s purely cosmetic.  I don’t think I’m going to try to change it when mine arrives but it’s too bad that it’s on there.  I’ve seen a few different styles in the various pictures online. I don’t know what they come with these days.

Mine came with the 2nd version wrap, the angular pattern,

Decided, I will wrap it matte black.

So a couple minor things I don't like about the gun, really minor.

And I did something about it,

I dislike lips at the bottom of pistol grips so I knocked it off, also not a fan of wooden grips on this type of gun so I painted it black ( eventually will paint with Rustoleum Truckbed lining )

Didn't like the new style wrap on the airtube so did a matte black wrap for it.

so here is the Nomad Huben Pistol :

It means :

Rather then doing a quick You tube video after days of owning a gun I will update this thread for months to come with anything I find out, chrono strings, shot counts  and everything from modding the gun to what kinds of holsters work to some real life penetration testing and such and hopefully end it with a Hog on the ground,...fair enough ?

I've done wood rifle stocks with bedliner paint before. And yes, I removed the factory finish and even tried using primer. And it may have been the brand of paint I used but, it never really seemed to set up solid on the wood. Especially if it was hot and humid outside. I hope you have better results.

Nice work!  That's a very clean looking pistol in all black!  I wonder if there is a way to do a matte black rubberized coating like they use on the handles of tools?  That should improve the grip of the grip as well!

Think of it this way, instead of a single shallow video review or a single post the guy has set up a thread which will be dedicated to the long-term review of the gun.  Seems simple enough.

Over the years I've done several stocks with Truckbed lining with good results but I don't take the finish off just sand it a bit and usually let it cure a couple days before handling,...my favorite is Rustoleum, I prefer the texture over the others.

Today I will be taking my Caldwell Chonograph to the property I work at so I will be able to take speed reading of the pistol in the months to come, .....I'm very curious what the reading will be at my current setting, all I know is that I often get pass throughs or close to it with the MK IIs on the 2X6s I use to set my targets on.

Eventually my target will be to have the pistol shooting 900 fps with the MK II 34gr, and I will be only filling to 260 BAR or so, hoping for 6 good shots down to 200 BAR,

We will see how that shakes out.

Manny - looking forward to it.  I have seen some pretty wild variations in the numbers for these.

For example, the .22 being at 55 fpe near the low end!?! Some previous posts had me thinking that that was near the higher end of the 22’s capabilities.

Does anyone know how this gun responds to heavier slugs? The Air Force platform which I’ve done most of my shooting on has that unusual valve that stays open as long as the slug is in the barrel - so power ramps up considerably more as slug weight increases than for the other airguns i have.
