Title: why were the daisy .22 rifles discontinued?
Post by: momosgarage on November 16, 2011, 07:10:00 PM
Every so often I see posts about the Daisy 22SG, 22X, 822 and 922.  Why did Daisy stop making these?  Also are the current leftover 22SG's in very short supply?  This would seem to be a rifle that would sell for less that $95 retail, but I've never seen it for less in 2011, despite back in the mid-2000's when the 22X was around $70 new.

I don't know for certain, but my guess would be because they seem to have geared toward selling airguns for a younger generation than the typical mature airgun target shooter and hunter. That's just a guess on my part. They make very affordable shooters that young parents can usually afford to buy for their children/teens, and that market is probably pretty strong, at least in some parts of the country. The ammo is cheaper, the .177 pellet is probably marginally less dangerous (than the .22), and some of their guns are dual-purpose, shooting both pellets and bb's.

Thought you and others might be interested in a link I found on the history of the Daisy corp.

I don't know, but it's a shame. I love my 22SG. It's easy to pump and fun to shoot. I've taken squirrels with it at 10-15 yards with no problem.
I like the fact that .22 pellets are easier for my fat fingers to load.
I also like the wood stock, just wish that it had a metal pump handle. The plastic handle isn't a problem, except in my mind. I've thought about making one from aluminum, or even from linen Micarta. Either one would be plenty stiff. The Micarta would look pretty darned good, too. It's just expensive.

I agree.  It is due to the intended market.  That and the power plants are marginal for .22's.  Not that they can't toss a pellet but nothing close to a 392.

It's true. my 392 flings them about 100 fps faster than my 22SG.
That said, the 22SG is fun to shoot, and easy to pump.
I wouldn't trade either. I like them both
