Title: Tip for loading BBs into a Model 25.
Post by: avator on November 19, 2023, 03:36:26 PM
Like some others here, a year or so I bought a new Daisy Model 25 with the wood stock and pump handle. This was my very first BB gun when I was a kid. Then over the years they began making then with plastic stock and pump handle.

https://www.daisy.com/product/model-25-pump-bb-gun/

These new ones are pretty nice with the crossbar safety and adjustable rear sight (elevation and windage) and flip up peep option. And mine is very accurate with the Daisy Precision Max BBs. I've since shot a few hundred BBs with it and it's breaking in nicely. It's time for me to drill out that peep to remove the "spider webs" and see about a lighter trigger spring.
Unfortunately one of the things I remember about the gun still exists, loading BBs in the magazine.
I either had to load it over a bowl to catch spilled BBs or use a magnet to pick them up.
My solution is a simple plunger type pellet pen...

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Crosman-Pellet-Loader-Holds-16-177-Cal-Pellets/20753529

Pull the plunger out and form a funnel around the top with my thumb a index finger. Pour BBs in until full and dump the rest back into the container. (maybe a couple more so the plunger sticks back in 3/8" or so).
Then I press the soft rubber tip of the pellet pen over that loading hole in the magazine and just push all the BBs into the mag in one motion. Slicker than greased snot on a slip and slide.
It holds about 2 full pellet pens full. It will stop filling when the mag is full. Just squeeze the rest back into the container.

Great tip Bill, thanks. I too have a new wood stock 25 but have yet to shoot it. Not wanting to hijack the thread but I wonder if a regular straw would work?

Yeah should work but the pellet pen has a funnel of sorts and probably easier than a straw to fill. The trick for feeding them into the magazine is to tilt the magazine so the BBs run down into it. The rubber tip of the pellet pen flexes to make a seal.

Copy that. Got one coming from Amazon.

This, by far has to be the best way to load the model 25. Had one of these pellet pens for a long time, but rarely used it. Preferred the other style that didn't have the plunger sticking out, but now have use for the Crosman one  ;D

Thanks for the tip!

Same here Zack. I bought a 2 pack several years ago and they sat unused ever since until just a couple days ago.

I will try that. I ordered another 25 this week. I plan to “defarb” strip and restrain the wood on the one I bought last year and the new one, hate the orange finish.

Bill, I've recently seen a mod for the 25.
You drill a hole into the endcap (you are actually drilling a hole into the magazine)
You take out the spring and the little follower and insert a tube.
Load the bb's through the hole, make yourself a little rubber plug as a stopper.
Tipping the gun upward it gravity feeds the bb.

I'll try to find the video...

here it is..

As for myself one of the biggest draws of the 25 is that one can keep your sight picture while shooting. I really like spring fed shot tubes. I can’t remember the model but Christmas 1968:I got a Daisy lever BB gun that had a spring fed shot tube . I could shoot critters in the ditch or bayou without pointing it toward the sky to load a bb, I have missed that feature until getting a 25 last year.

Thanks.  Just bought one.  The spring fed magazine is a huge plus over the RR gravity feed.  The big downside is loading the magazine one bb at a time.

That's exactly what this thread addresses, go back and read the first post if you missed it.

I don't have a picture on hand, but I made a BB loader for my model 25.

All you need is an medicine bottle ( ALEVE...etc ) and a Bic pen tube.

1st file a u notch into the end of the pen tube, then use whatever means you have on hand to heat and bend the end to fit around the loading hole.
Drill a hole in the cap, and glue in the pen tube.

To use just fill, hold it against the loading hole and shake to load the BB's.

That'll work too. I used to just use a folded piece of card stock to funnel them in.

I'm always in too much of a hurry for even that to work out without spilling any BB's.
I can shoot all day long 1 round at a time, but when there's a magazine to load I find myself wanting to load it as quickly as possible.

If that were the case for me I would order a few spare magazines.

I have a few extra cylinders for my Crosman 357, and a full cartridge belt worth of shells for the umarex peacemaker.

Don't ask me why, but I just have no patience when it comes to loading the model 25 for some reason.

Yep, that's the reason for this thread.   ;)

I use one of these without adapters.  Just hold it against the fill port, not perfect but does work pretty well and very fast.
I had bought it for my Beretta M92A1 semi/full auto with 18 rnd magazine which definitely needs it.

Betty Lou and I had a ton of fun shooting the Model 25 at cans yesterday. We shot most of the afternoon and I set out the lights and we continued to shoot after dark. Somehow a BB got into the spring on the magazine and I messed up the spring digging it out. I should have taken it apart instead. So that ended our shooting.
She had so much fun she wanted a Model 25 of her own. So this morning I ordered one for her and a replacement magazine for mine. We'll just consider them Christmas gifts to each other. They should be here Monday.

Here's the DIY model 25 speed loader I mentioned, I went ahead and took some pictures while I had my model 25 out for some plinking.

The replacement magazine came in today for the Model 25. Back up and shooting as new.
I got it from an Ebay seller that is also a GTA member. It's a new stock item.
Now the wait is on for Betty Lou's Model 25 to arrive on Monday or Tuesday and let the games begin.
Amazon says Tuesday but UPS says Monday. The original ETA from Amazon was Monday but they changed it. I think they are tired of sending me credits for late deliveries.

I got  the loader from Amazon, still getting the hang of it. Got my second 25  a couple of weeks ago and got to around 100 shots before I realized I had not cleaned the bore . Amazing what a difference it makes even with a BB gun.

Slick loader bantam, I can see where loading the “ hopper” would be easier.
The bottle of Black Diamonds I am loading from now got over served with Silicone oil be me and that is likely the reason I am having trouble with any loading method.

CJ, the pellet pen loader is much easier to use if you only fill it to about 1/2" from the top. It did take a bit to get used to it but now I can use it eazy peazy like it was made for it. I load all my BB gun stick mags with it now. I'm sure David's method works great too but I'm happy with the BB pen and will continue using it until I'm not.

Thanks.
I came up with this design about 10 years ago, my dad bought himself a model 25 that he was having trouble loading and I made him the 1st version of this design back then.

Big Brown pulled in at 10:20 and dropped off Betty Lou's Model 25. She was finishing up the breakfast dishes before opening the box. She got it opened, looked over the gun then handed it to me.
I had a good look at it for any signs of damage. Nope, looks good to go. It came in the original Daisy Model 25 box and Amazon shipped it in a larger outer box.
I tookk it out on the front porch and used the nasal spray fill bottle to load the mag. The pellet pen loader is a bit better in my opinion.
The flip up peep was real tight and I had to pry it up but that will loosen up. I need to remove it to drill the hole out anyways.
I made about 10 rapid pump and fire shots with it and it seems to function just as it should. Can't feel any difference between it and mine aside from needing a bit of breaking in.
I'm 'bout to head out to the shop to drill the peep and clean and oil the gun. Then I'll get it sighted in for her.

That's a good idea too. Load them up and put a small plug it the end. Heck, load a shirt pocket full of them. I bet the green booger from the 362 would fit.   ;D

I used to use plastic straws.

Judt hold one end in a pair of pliers then melt it shut with a lighter.
It's way cheaper , easier , and faster than having to save enough empty Bic pens.

Trying to goad Betty Lou into sitting by a fire, sip on a few cold ones and shoot some cans with the matching Model 25s today. So far I got her up to the sipping on a few cold ones level. I might have to modify my tactics to get her to the next levels.  :o

Offered to cook but it seems as though she is allergic to canned cream of mushroom soup and cheese doodles.

Even with beer.
