I'm so impressed with my new Daisy 499B and how accurate it is with Hornady Black Diamond BBs I have to share the experience. At twenty four feet I couldn't miss my targets. My little metal chickens were so scared two hid and I had to search to find them and dust their feathers. Also shot a paper target and about 20 BBs went into a group less than 1/2 inch. A lot of fun can be had with an inexpensive gun, Charles

Yep.
8 yards is a fun distance.

That rifle is on my list. Twice I have had one ordered from Pyramyd while they were on extended back order and eventually cancelled as something else got my interest. I have a FWB 601 and a Pardini GPR Top 10 meter rifles that I don’t shoot enough so a 5M bb rifle doesn’t make sense for me to get but still want one. I like accurate rifles in their various forms.
-
Definitely intrigued by the 499B. I can shoot 10M in my basement but it puts me right up against a wall with my back. 5-8 meters would involve not moving any furniture. Hmmmm.
-
I have not actually done serious accuracy testing with mine, but I get the impression that its capable of shooting all or almost all shots within an inch at 25 yards with cheap Daisy bbs.
The rear sight is all the way up at 25 yards.

I bought mine from AA Classifieds.
$100.00 delivered along with a Red Ryder.
I gave the Red Ryder to an Eagle Scout in training.
His dad and grand-dad were already Eagle Scouts.

I have a like new one that I bought sitting in a box and was going to sell it until I finally opened up the box and wow it was just like new looking. Have not shot it yet. I bought a complete front site insert kit for it off the Bay.
-
I'm going to have to buy one, I guess. I'm beginning to think slinging steel is just as addictive as lobbing lead. ;D

Too, you can re-use the BBs over and over..

As my bb gun collection grows I am thinking again about selling the 499, still have not shot it, for some odd reason the muzzle loading aspect doesn't appeal to me. Before I place the add on the classifieds thought I would discuss the possibility here. I would not want much for it.

Sounds like Ed wants one..

I did, but I forgot they were muzzle loaders. I think I'd rather just have the shot tube now.

JMHO, but I think you owe it to yourself to try out Daisy's Most Accurate BB gun before you give it up.
They shoot competitions with it! again, JMHO

I suppose you are right. I'm like Ed the muzzle loader thin but I don't mind single shots anyways, might be fun. I am planning a big bb shoot off very soon, with paper targets so accuracy is going to be part of the shoot. If the 499 blows everything else out of the water I may get hooked.

I think you are right, I'm thinking like Ed with the muzzle loader thing but I don't mind single shots. I am planning a bb shoot off very soon and I will be shooting paper so accuracy is going to be a factor. I should at least shoot the 499.

I'm not really chasing ultimate accuracy with a bb. I see my bb shooters as fun machines. I shredded a can at 21 yards with my 4x crossbow scoped 35 over the weekend and that's plenty good enough for me. My Red Ryders are for faster shooting and they work well for that. A muzzle loader just isn't what I'm looking for.

Don't get me wrong Ed. Shredding cans is at the top of my bb target list, but here in the yard I cannot shred cans as it makes too much noise for the neighbors. I have to punch paper because it's quiet. I have two PCP pellet shooters that will print tiny groups at 25 yards but I am all about bbs right now. Ed, You need a 499 so when you get to that thin piece of can preventing a final cut in half, you can move in with the 499 and get the final cut.

I'll admit that I'm really fortunate to live in a rural area and be able to shoot anything I want to. I've been in an apartment and figured out a way to shoot quietly so I do understand.
-
Well, I guess I will go shoot the 499b at the stars..
-
Steve, don't forget these are low powered for 5 meter paper targets.
Don't know myself how they would work on cans, but I have heard of a few that put the cobalt327 spring upgrade in them for more power.

I'm not much of a tinker guy and I have a Daisy 35 that I have not shot yet, but it's a multi pump bb shooter, so the 499 for me will remail stock. I can't shoot cans in this yard now because they would make too much noise. Last year I had 40 acres to shoot but that ship has sailed.

Most of my stuff is shot indoor in an apartment.
and then there's Winter...

Unlike most of the country, I live in the hot part of Arizona and the good shooting season is just starting for me. Can shoot pretty much all Winter. But, I still have the Neighbors issue and have to keep the noise level down.

I have to wait for the building to empty out, but sometimes during nice weather I can sneak down to the back lawn and punch cans with the louder guns.
Most of my indoor airguns have LDCs.
From my easy chair I can shoot in 2 different directions.
One room length in one direction, two in the other.
First is about 5 meter, number two is about 10. Always in the homemade pellet box.
