Title: LH FWB300s update
Post by: Mark 611 on November 15, 2011, 02:06:22 PM
Well decided to change out the scope and mount with a Leapers offset mount and 3x9x32AOMDIR scope! and so far its worked out well I just wished it had a little more magnification like 10X but for the money I guess I can't complain! anyway heres a 10 shot group I shot at 30yds with 8.44gr JSB's at 525fps with the spring set up thats in the gun right now! With a 10m zero it takes a 1 Mildot hold over at 30yds what do you guy's think?

I really like those little side levers. The 8.44g JSB shot well in my little Chinese side lever. I switched to AA Falcon 7.33gr. These were also very accurate and gave a higher velocity and flatter trajectory. However, they may not do as well in the wind. I used a Leapers 3-12x44 Swat compact scope and they are just short enough to clear the loading port on the short action side levers when you use an appropriate offset mount. Not much else available if you want more than 9x in a short scope.

It's shooting good. Can't ask for much more than dimes at 30 yards.

I'll have to keep that in mind on the scope, I do plan to get all new seals and a JM spring for it as soon as they become available again from JM unless somebody has an alteritive spring idea? This is my 2nd 300s my brother bought my first one from me it was a right handed gun, I really like these rifles the triggers and the accuracy is outstanding in these rifles! if I could find another LH model I buy it in a minute! :P

The thing w the 300 is the top loading port limits the length of the scope.  Too long and you can't load the rifle.  My Bushnell 4-12x covers part of the loading port, tricky to load, but doable.

Be careful about upgrading the spring on the rifle.  It is NOT a high power rifle, so the cocking linkages may not take the strain of a spring too much "stronger" than the stock spring w/o abnormal wear.  Also the recoilless mechanism may run out of recoil travel movement (the amount the sledge can move on the lower receiver) if the spring is too strong.

hey Mark... is funny to see your 300s as it could be my 300 twin brother... About 8 months ago i purchased a clean example that was shooting poorly and gave it to the master Jan Kraner for a reseal, tune and a bit of wood work. What came back was a truly astonishing gun. with the Maccari kit mine shot jsb 8.44 gr at 661 fps average!. it was a tack driver and i had it compleate with all the sights and all. Somehow i got an Itch for a Beeman Falcon R and ended up selling that gun to fund the other... Well, the falcon is incredible, but to this day i kick myself in the rear for selling that gun...
So much that about 3 weeks ago I was able to trade my Hw45 Sport .20 for one of my friends new additions to his collection, nothing more than a beat up 300s with ugly wood and a missing rear sight. it is shooting jsb 8.44 gr at 540 fps, and the lighter RS at 600... I have scoped mine with a Bushnell 4x32 and use it for mini sniping in my back yard. As soon as i get the courage i will tell jan again to work his magic in hope to recapture the awesomeness of my first fwb. By the way, he knows FWB like nobody's business... He restored my 124 to its former glory and it feels like is got a Ram in it. That one shoots the obligatory 8.44 jsb at an average 877fps. Crazy!
you got a really beautiful rifle there, enjoy it.

Nice find there Mark and a LH stock no less!  Perfect for us lefties. ;D   I'd love to own one of these classic FWB 300s someday.  Even with the mellow velocity, they sure are accurate.  Nice shooting too!

How many yards out do you think you can keep similar accuracy up?  45-50?  Let us know :P

Very nice groups Mark! Fine accuracy like that keeps it interesting and a lot fun.

Dustin your right! Calmark I plan to put this gun thru its paces! but I'll probably tear it down and do a tune on it before I get to serious about shooting any further than 30yds even tho I have taken some shots out at 55yds and yes I did hit the objects I was shooting at but I feel a little more power is needed to be consistant at that range! so I have some planning to do! ;D :P
