I don't know if any of you other members are in the path of hurricane Earl but here on east end of Long Island we're supposed to get a "glancing blow". I spent the last 2 days getting all my emergency gear accounted for and ready to go and stocked up on all the necessities. Generator is ready to fire up and I have a weeks worth of gas stored in the shed so if we lose power, which happens all the time by me, we'll still have the benefit of electricity. I just finished battening down the hatches here on the home front so we're about as ready as we're gonna be. The only thing I couldn't get done was to get my boat out of the water but the marina is fairly well protected so I'm hoping it will be ok. It's been through this before and faired well so I'm hoping it will still be afloat tomorrow morning. If it sinks I guess I'll just have to call the insurance company and tell em to send me a check (oh boy, more air gun money). Well, to those of you who may also be in harms way stay hunkered down and here's to hoping you, and I, fair this storm well.

Jeff, we will be thinking about you as this blows through and praying all our members and family in the area are spared from damage or injury. Keep us informed as you can, especially after it passes!!!! Let us know if we can do anything for you.

You might want to use a couple of wind flags, baby! :D Seriously, hope you weather the storm OK.
-
Thanks guys :)
We just started getting some rain, heavy at times but no wind yet. The wind is supposed to hit us hardest starting around 3 pm and lasting until around 10 pm. Will keep you advised.

Well Jeff,
As a Survivalist you can bet that I'm prepared for every situation !
It looks good for me inland some 60 miles, but only GOD knows when a storm will change course !
I checked our survival stores, and batten down anything that could fly around the property, and could cause damage, so everything here is as good as I can make it !
I PRAY for safe passage of this hurricane for ALL of our our GTA Family !!!!
I believe that if I do my part and PRAY HARD !!!!! GOD will help us the rest of the way !!!!
PRAY HARD and be safe, ALL YOU AirGunners !

where just starting to get earl's rain in RHODE ISLAND.
-
Button it up tight Jeff but I know you'll do fine, prepared as always. ;) You might see some critters flying by and get a shot off hehehe. Ed
-
now if we get video of a flying nutter getting taken out, i will LAUGH.
-
Funny that you mention the nutters because they are out in force in the neighborhood running around gathering up acorns at a frenzied pace. I always see nutters in the neighborhood but not this many. I think they know the big blow is coming and they're stocking up :)

Hang tight coasters. Looks like the eye is gonna pass East of everyone and Earl is now a cat 1. Wind speeds a mere 74-96mph. Heh. Like Bill, I'm about 70 miles inland. Not to worried bout myself, but I got family in both RI and on Cape Cod.
Jeff, my Mom was telling me that the birds on the Cape have been no where to be seen. Them animals sure know things.
Best of luck to all! Hope ya won't need it. :)

4:09 pm and so far everything is pretty calm. Very little rain and just slight winds, maybe we're gonna luck out on this one :) I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I've sat through 2 hurricanes that where direct hits. During the 2nd one, I promised God that I would change my ways if I survived. It must have been a good deal because I am still here. I will never ride out a major hurricane again. They do not even need to tell me to leave because I am already gone.
Good luck, hope the damage is minimal.
Bogey.

Hope it misses you Jeff!

Ok, it's 6:12 now and the rain and wind have finally started to hit us. On and off heavy down pours of rain and wind picking up steadily. Just checked the radar and sure enough the bands of wind and rain are showing right on top of us.

I have only received a few drops of rain, and mild breezes. And we can certainly use the rain here !
It looks like New Jerkey has scared off Earl, as it does to so many visitors that come through here :)
We even have tree rats running around as usual, no cares or worries.
Thank GOD we missed this one !!!!!

8:34 now and while the wind isn't all that bad we have so much rain coming down that the only thing missing is a big boat filled with 2 of every kind of critter :)

That's not fair Jeff,
Huntin in the ARK !
Let them get out and swim for it first :)

Well, the storm has finally passed us and we fared very well. An awful lot of rain but no wind damage and I just got back from checking on my boat at the marina and she's floating just fine :)

Glad to hear you got spared Jeff.
Having been through Gloria when I lived near the bay in Amityville, I know how bad it can get there on the Island. That one realy tore up our area with trees through houses and power out in some areas for close to two weeks (only three days for us.) However, I was one of the lucky ones. Only damage to my place was two large branches come down on a back yard tree that I had been thinking of having cut off because they were shading a garden. ;D
And it was realy cool to step outside into dead calm and be able to look straight up into the eye of the storm as Gloria passed over.

It just scimmed by me ,just alot of rain.
-
Paul, I remember Gloria very well. I did the same thing you did. The eye of the storm passed directly over us and it was just awesome to stand outside and look up into the beautiful clear, sunny, windless sky that only moments prior had been dark, rainy, evil looking with unbelievable wind. I worked a double shift during that hurricane, not by choice - they wouldn't let us go home, and the destruction I saw during my shifts was just scary.

We were driving from NJ to SC as Gloria came up the coast, It was really rough driving but we were determined to make as much headway as we could. We got into Maryland and everything just stopped, clear skies and no wind. About 20 min. later, we were back in it and it was twice as bad as the leading edge. It hadn't occurred to us that we were in the eye, at least not till we got slammed again!

i'm was repleing to wrong hurricaine.Hermine is the one that blew by me.
-
I remember Gloria and 1 or 2 others in the late 70's, early-mid 80's where I stood under the (evil) eye of the storm. It was earie calm after all that pandemonium.. and then an hour or 2 later after the eye passed it started all over again. That was some experience.
Jeff nothing to worry about. I could see at least 4-6hrs before on the radar that it wasn't going to hit LI. I knew the cold front from the west would push it back east or northeast.
When I post on threads like this, you can start worrying. If you don't see my post, no worries ;D
Just in case I have a new 110mph roof on the house. I may not have any windows when a hurricane comes, but I should have a roof on my head :)
