I woke up from a short nap and Betty Lou was busy in the kitchen. I happen to glance out the front door and couldn't even see the dirt road out in front through the thick dark blue smoke that covered the entire front acre. I stepped out on the front deck and the smell was terrible. It wasn't just wood burning. I made my way around back to make sure it wasn't the Red Shed on fire. Then made my way through the smoke to check on the bar. I could see it wasn't the barn. And it wasn't coming from the new neighbors that are putting in the double wide.
We jumped in the truck and drove around to the hard road to check on the county school bus garage... nope, not there.
Finally we went the the Venue on the Runway behind us through the woods.... Ah hah.. there it is. Someone had set a large pile of building debris on fire and I think it had a tire in it. It must have burned the whole time I was asleep because it was about out and just smoldering away with nobody around. I got out of the truck and had a closer look to see that there was no way it could spread out of control.
Man, that was a scary thing to wake up to.

I really do not think the airport people
know care you are back there

Yeah, they know we're here. It's not really the airport. Daryl McGough owns Extreme Heating and Cooling Co. He bought one of the hangars and about 20 acres of land around the airport and turned it into an event venue.

That venue is between us and the actual airport. They are the ones who had the fire. We know Daryl very well and he definitely knows we're here. I'm sure it was one of his grounds keepers who lit the fire and I'm sure he didn't intentionally smoke us out.
I don't really care about them having the fire, we're in the country and burning is common. It was just scary to wake up engulfed in smoke and not knowing where it was coming from.

We have some wood debris fires around here i don't like but that is life in the country for someone to burn indutrial rubbish town or countryand espcially a tire is the peak of arrogance and entitlement not to mention lazy tightass and stupid
That is a vent from afar so air but no pellet ,

He might have been better advised to have checked the local/state news within the past couple of days before starting that fire, and walking away from it.
The entire state of Alabama is currently under a "Fire Alert" according to my local news source.

I know our county and numerous counties surrounding us are under a burn ban. I've heard the fines are pretty steep.
Update: 45 of the 82 counties are under the burn ban. Violators found guilty minimum fine $100 and maximum $500.

Ironic topic, considering how the new neighbor was burning again today-been dry for two weeks, leaves starting to drop, and windy...
Did I mention his burn pile (all brought in from somewhere else too!) was IN the woods?... >:(
Have gotten rained on by ash at least half a dozen times now; that punk needs some good arse whoopin'....
Oh yeah, one day he was burning; he would splash gasoline on it, do half a dozen loops around on his 4-wheeler; stop and splash more on, repeat, repeat, repeat....
I only wish I was making this up!... :P

I thought everyone knew you burn tires at night.
...that way you can't see the smoke.
Kidding
Or maybe not.

I remember as a kid a bunch of us thought it would be a good idea to burn a bunch of tires in the woods one night. Of course, that's before "black face" was a thing. :o
