Title: Getting a new neighbor.
Post by: avator on September 19, 2023, 12:39:07 PM
There are 3 acres between the place we used to live and where we live now. There is also the acre that the barn in on. Patrick and Angie bought the 3 acres from our old landlord, Pops. After owning the land for 2 years, they are finally moving in. There are crews down there prepping to put in the double wide mobile home.
Patrick used to work in the stamping department I supervised at the Hyundai supplier I retired from. I once restored a 342 that he inherited from his dad when he passed. They shot that gun together when he was a kid. I also gave Patrick's young son a 2240 several years ago. He was so proud to show me the first squirrel he took with that gun. As he and Patrick were walking up the drive, Rambo sneaked up behind him and stole the squirrel out of his hand. I yelled at Rambo and he dropped the squirrel. It was funny to us but not so much to Todd.
Betty Lou and Angie have met a few times and enjoyed talking to each other. I'm not real concerned about having new neighbors mainly because they are very much like us. We enjoy our privacy and will respect each other.

In rural to semi rural living ... neighbors truly can Make or Break the day to day living experience.
Hope all stays as it has been & everyone gets along  ;D

Thanks Scott.. yeah, I'm not too worried about it. Folks in these parts pretty much respect each other. And I do know Patrick so it's not like I have to wonder what kind of people they are.

I'm lucky to have great neighbors.   In my neighborhood, I'm the bad neighbor.   I'm the old guy with motorcycles, dirtbikes, junk vehicles in the yard, an unkempt lawn and guns.  But I predated all of them by decades so they came to my neighborhood.   I didn't go to theirs.   I'm pleased that a couple of the newer neighbors are shooters and I've heard them pop off a few rounds now and then.   I know we wont be complaining about each other.   Hopefully,  the Mercedes, BMW and Volvo driving new neighbors wont demand that the town pave our bumpy dirt road.   I know they don't like dust and mud on their Euro cars.

Got 5 households around our property. There is only one guy I communicate with on a daily basis but I'm in OK relationship with others too. If someone needs help with something, they know they can count on me and vice versa. And that's how I like it, not overcrowded, not too much hanging around, bbqs, group meetings etc.  It's quiet and when it's not, that's me shooting airguns lol.  ;D

Just watched the front half of the double wide get delivered. The crew followed it in. I expect it to be set, joined and sealed up today. I haven't seen Patrick so I don't know his plan for skirting, decks or out buildings.

Sounds good, Bill

Sonja and I are the "new neighbors" where we're building our quonset... Sort of.  We've been going there close to 3 years and my in-laws owned one of the parcels for over 25 years before we started reclaiming the property from the vegetation, so everybody else is technically the newcomers...  Some of the land owners have moved, others have died.  The area has building codes dominated by the James River's Hundred-Year flood plain, and we have one of the highest properties.  the others that could build have, and with fewer than 25 properties total with no parcelling permitted, we're pretty happy with the future.

I ran out to gets some paint supplies for Betty Lou this morning and I could see Patrick's truck through the sparse tree line that separates him and the barn acre. Thinking it was just him and maybe a good time to say hi and get a feel of his mindset I drove down and pulled onto his property. Turned out it was just Angie in Patrick's truck.
She yelled HI Bill !!! as i pulled in and followed that up with a big hug. We spoke a bit but I kept it short. She said her and Patrick would walk down and do a bit more catching up once they get settled.

I must be getting soft in my old age...
I'm compelled to deliver a house warming gift of a home made liquid nature to Patrick and Angie.  ;)   I'm also considering offering the loan of my trailers, the 14 and the 10 footers. I only consider this because I've known Patrick for 10 years from work as his supervisor and I know he would respect them as his own.
