Shooting the K98 (D460 platform) normally, I heard a snap noise. Thought the spring broke but when I took off the stock, I found this.

Where did you buy it? I would contact them about a replacement. Fixing that is a PITA! Silver solder? JB Weld? Tack Weld?
Contact Hector for explicit details.

I agree with Yogi, if under warranty send it back.

I’ve come across people in airgun nation having that same part break on them. Never had an issue with my own d460. TW chambers sells the piece though. As I’m sure you saw, it’s for a little grub screw that requires an Allen key to remove. Pretty easy repair.

I'll chime in and agree to the warranty advice. Only you know how old the gun is but that may affect the warranty repair. Of course it IS repairable, all it takes is time and materials which means money. Good luck!!

Question:
Are you positively sure that the cocking lever was in its FULLY CLOSED position when the previous shot was taken?
Thanks!

Got it from Numrich a couple years ago. They don't do replacements.
The warranty is probably through Umarex, who I do not trust and will not use unless truly desperate.

I saw some posts there two with similar pics when I did a google search. Would you post a link to TW? Thatks probably thebest solution.

Thanks for chiming inHector.
I did not notice anything amiss with the previous shot. A while ago, I added some electrical tape to the cocking lever to ensure it closes securely and perceptibly when cocking and it has done so ever since.

OK thanks for the answer, one more request: take a picture of the ends of the broken part through a magnifying glass.
There are two cases:
a) there is a crystalline like break (sort of shiny faces, with some granularity to it, but in general a "clean" break.
b) there is evidence of the two parts rubbing against each other, with a granular sectio and a "rubbing" band somewhere in the break.
Case a) is a catastrophic failure and USUALLY, in the K98, obeys to the fact that the cocking lever can drop down when the piston is launched and is not fully closed when the piston strikes the inside of the compression chamber tearing the little part apart into two halves.
It can also happen if the compression chamber closing spring has been lost.
Case b) is the case of those shooters that need to LEAN their full body weight into the cocking lever to cock the rifle. The cocking linkage lug is not designed for that, and so, it fatigues and breaks. It starts with a crack and then the parts rub together till the remainin material fatigues and breaks.
Get some really good pictures (I use a jewelers' loupe in front of my digital camera to get some good close-up pictures) to me in an EMail with the serial number, and send me your postal address, DIANA will send you the part.
If you prefer to buy it, ask UMAREX to send you part # 30545300 ("Scharnierbolzen")
THANKS for posting, keep well and shoot straight!
