Yep, those boxes can add value. Some can be worth a few hundred dollars. My aunt and uncle divorced many years ago and he left a bunch of guns in the house. When she was getting ready to move, she gave some to her son-in-law and the rest were offered to her nephews. I got what my cousins didn't want. One was an old 1903 Springfield bolt action that didn't have any sights, so I guess they just passed on it. She had some parts and a cast-off stock, so I asked if I could have that old cardboard box up on the shelf to put them in. When I got home, I told my wife to never throw that box away. It's dated 5/64 from Letterkenny Arsenal and s/n'd to a 1903-A4 sniper (like in Saving Private Ryan). It's the rifle missing the sights. ;D That box proves the gun is an arsenal refinish and not something I cobbled together, making it worth a deal more. "Every little bit helps," said the Old Maid as she spit in the sea. ;)

There is a guy selling a model 600 box only on GunBroker for $85 !!!!!!!
I've got a couple 600's without boxes but that's more than I paid for either of the guns...
