Title: Checking in From Mississippi
Post by: crowley on November 10, 2011, 03:37:49 PM
I am new to "adult air guns", having long ago given them up for shoulder-busting magnum calibers.  Three weeks ago, I picked up a "bb gun" for the first time in 25 years.  Next, I spent the last three weeks chasing something acceptable in both quality and accuracy.  I went through a Daisey Powerline 35, a Crosman Phantom, and a Beeman RS2.  All Wal-Mart guns.  I was not impressed.  I could not get decent accuracy out of them.  The Beeman lost its seal after 200 to 300 shots.  I could throw a rock further than it could shoot.  The Phantom was twangy and jumped like a goosed Chihuahua every time it fired.  I couldn't string together a 5-shot group within 6 inches.  The Daisey was a toy.  Then, I ordered a RWS Diana 34P.

The 34P is amazing.  Being modest, I know how to point a rifle, but I was shocked at how much better it performed than the other three.  The quality and accuracy makes it obvious why it has such high regards in this community.

I am glad I have read so much great information from the site and made a great purchase, in the end.

Here's my official application to talk trash and rub shoulders with you all:

10 shots @ 10yds using .177 CPHP.  Not too shabby for a 10-shot group out of the first 50 rounds downrange.

Beautiful man, just beautiful.

Welcome and, sorry you had to go down the "junk airgun" road before you found about real quality like the 34P.

The higher-end Diana/RWS guns and the Weihrauch guns are some the best springers out there, with Weihrauch at the top o' the heap.

Post more tragets and ask all the questions you want, lot's of 34 shooters on here and they have got tips and mods up the gazoo!

And a little video....  SHOOTING TOOTHPICKS

I had to adjust in some "Kentucky windage" to address the close range.  I set my scope to shoot 1.5" high at 10 yards.

Welcome to the GTA, J.  The 34 is a well-respected and liked airgun on our forum and you will find lots of info and conversations centering around it.  Unfortunately many first-time airgunners are turned off by the inaccuaracy of some guns and never truly get to a point of enjoying the hobby.  I'm glad you were able to make the jump to a much nicer gun.  The GTA is much like your 34 in that it is a quality forum with lots of great potential if you desire to explore.  The big warning is that the forum as well as shooting is very addictive and challenging to your bank account.  So, make yourself at home and shoot away!
