Title: Aftermarket piston seals for Gamos vs. Cometas: true Vortek / Maccari sizes?
Post by: Toxylon on April 26, 2023, 08:00:48 AM
Vortek sells the Pro Seal 25mm which according to them, fits the 25mm Gamos, the TX200, and the RWS94, which is a Cometa Fenix 400.

The mid-sized Gamos (440, Whisper etc.), like the TX200, are 25mm guns. Accordingly, my late Hunter 440 had a 25mm bore.

The Cometa 400, however, is a 26mm gun. My Fenix 400 has a bore of 26mm.

How can Vortek list the same seal for both these categories? Especially considering that you are not supposed to size these seals, but to shoot them in.

Vortek does not list the OD of the 25mm Pro Seal. A German retailer lists it as 25.1mm. My Fenix 400 needs a 26.2mm seal at a minimum to seal, so the Vortek seems utterly unfit for the gun.

Maccari has the Apex Small seal, which fits the 25mm Gamos, and, with corollaries, the RWS94. Maccari informs that on average the RWS94 has a 26.1mm seal. My OEM Cometa seals are at that size, too. Which is a little too small.

Maccari also sells the Apex Small Oversized by 8 Thou, which is a little bigger, but Maccari is vague on just what the OD is. If the seal is supposed to fit the 25mm guns, it surely isn't 26.2,mm or bigger, which is what I need.

It would be cool to hear from the GTA community what are the actual OD's of these American aftermarket seals. They fetch around 25 to 35 USD a piece to me, plus a month or so of shipping time, so I'm not keen on taking a chance with a seal that may turn out to be useless.
