Title: Brookhaven Long Island Range
Post by: fivestar45 on March 24, 2023, 04:40:51 PM
Anyone gone to the Brookhaven Long Island range recently?
I called and they said the AriGun range was closed down and now have to use the powder burner range. I'm just wondering  how well that may have worked out from someone that has tried it.

Been going to that range for about the last eight years and was there right before they shut it down.  New owners are leasing property and are fixing the place up after years of neglect, looks like they’re going to use the airgun range for something else.
According to what I’ve heard from others is that the airgun range wasn’t a big money maker for them.  That and people were abusing privileges by shooting at whatever they felt like and not cleaning up after themselves as well as others not even paying fees for the day.  Rumor has it they may find another spot for AG use, but only for .177 and .22 caliber, .25 and up will have to use powder burner range.  We’ll see…
It’s a real shame because it was a great place to shoot airguns and shoot the bull with other like minded people, I met a lot of great people there over the years.  We also had steel spinners at different ranges, they don’t have that at the powder ranges, only allowed to shoot at paper.  I haven’t shot at the powder range at Brookhaven yet as I’ve been going to Calverton as it is less than 10 minutes from my house. Never had to wear hearing protection at AG only range, now it is a must!  What’s the saying, you don’t know what you got til it’s gone. ☹️

No dedicated airgun range at Calverton, bring your hearing protection if you go, also admission goes up on April 1st to $25.

I never used the airgun range at Brookhaven but I'm sorry to hear they shut it down, I know quite a few people enjoyed shooting there.  As for now having to shoot airguns at the PBer range, I personally won't even consider that.  the few times over the years that I used that range to sight in hunting rifles I was always less than thrilled with the experience.  The range officers always did their best to insure that all shooters obeyed the safety rules but there were still to many inexperienced and careless shooters on that line waving guns all over the place instead of down range creating a very unsafe environment.  After my last experience I vowed I'd never shoot there again and I haven't.  Anyway, sorry to hear the airgun range shut down.
