Title: Hello from a noob
Post by: MACPAPPY on November 07, 2011, 05:42:22 PM
Hi folks. Just got into air gunning a couple of weeks ago. Borrowed my brothers gun and got the bug  ;D. Unfortunately I did not do my research before running head long and purchasing a gun (see my signature). You'd think I'd know to search out forums first (I belong to 4 motorcycle forums).
The good news, so far, is that once I encountered the scope creep problem >:( on my Gamo Whisper IGT, I found the resolution on this forum and now have the part ordered I believe will fix it (once again, see my signature...it's my fate). Fingers are crossed. There's actually a funny (sort of) story behind all that scope creep stuff. Perhaps I'll write it up when I see how the new parts does. From what research I did trying to resolve the issue, this forum had the most concise information, hence the reason for joining this forum. Probably would not have bought the Gamo but time will tell.
Hobbies........almost too many to list. Motorcycling (3 in my stable), fresh and saltwater fishing, canoeing, camping/backpacking, air gunning now! , reading,......on and on :o. Won't have a problem keeping busy if and when I retire.
I'm loving this hobby but the squirrels are hating it!

Welcome to GTA Mac! :)
Yes, experience is an excellent teacher. It's the only one I know, and it's a double-edge sword that leaves it mark, lol.
Nice to have you here. :)

Yep, been reading the "comments" about the Gamos. Not many good things said about them. Sadly, I bought mine on impulse. Borrowed my bother's Remington Summit with a CenterPoint scope, sighted it in and went squirrel hunting. 4 head shots in 30 minutes. THAT got me excited. Got the Gamo and could not hold a 6" group at 20 yds. Sad to say I could hold a better group with the fiber optic sights and my eyesight is not that good (getting old). Too late now. Hope I don't have to dump a lot of $ into this thing to get it right. Not planning on doing any competition shooting, just squirrel hunting. We'll see what happens. Will post results of the new Leapman scope mount when I get it in and on.
This forum is GREAT. Wish I had done my homework before buying. At least I can warn my son-in-law who is now looking at getting an airgun.

The nice thing about airguns is that there's always another one to buy. :D

AND...they're a heck of a lot cheaper than any one of the three motorcycles I own!
Yeah....I'm already searching on line just to see what's out there. ::)

Welcome to the best forum there is. I've looked around and this is the one i keep coming to for info and the most helpful...friendly people on the internet. Sorry to hear about the gamo. You should try a Benjamin Disco or a Marauder if you have the funds. No problem with scope creep and easy to mod. Not to mention these things are accurate.
Browse the PCP section in the forums and check them out. The scope creep was solved on my walther talon by using the leapers 1 piece mount ( They have a special tape inside the rings and a stop screw on the mount.) Make sure to clean the scope rail and mount to make sure there is no grease or oil on them. Also, google for the artillery hold or it may be in the GTA library at the top of this page. Some guns have a brake in period before they become accurate ( a couple hundred shots or so). Have fun shooting!!!

Welcome,

There are many here that love their GAMOs.  While they are not the same as previous GAMOs, they are still excellent shooters and I feel that many of the complaints about the plastic over-molded barrels are unfounded. The trigger is bad news but the CDT GRT4 upgrade will fix it and make it fun to shoot.

As for the scope creep, I recommend The BKL scope one piece mount, it is a bit pricey but they are the best and you only need to buy once. See pict.
