Title: Updating my shroud
Post by: GARY T on March 19, 2023, 07:27:30 PM
I'm hoping you have a solution. I have had the air rifle for around 11 years and had a custom shroud made with mod inside.  It has a snap sound now, better than without, which sounds like a .22 powder burner.
I would like to update and shorten rifle.
[
Currently it's 48" with shroud .
BSA LONESTAR. 25
The barrel is 21"
Shroud is 27.5"
Moderator mounted

Mod is 22" from breach.
The current shroud does not have a removable cap at exit. I'll look for a carbon fiber shroud if need be.

I could add more, but I've rambled enough.

Is it possible that you tuned it up to shoot at supersonic speeds ? Did you tune it or switch to lighter ammo ? There was a thread not too long ago about the same situation, turned out the OP had the gun tuned to shoot fast enough to get that crack.
Hope you sort it out, be safe.

Hey Mitch. I responded to this yesterday,  but it appears that my comment did not make it.
You are correct the original owner had it tuned to shoot 50 foot pounds.  Im ok with thst and the 17 shots per fill. The custom shroud with mod inside was made over 11 years ago. With the new technology and materials out there I'm hoping there may be a solution to quiet it down and shorten overall length. If not I can deal with it. It's a fantastic rifle

Regards,
Gary

I'm not familiar with your rifle but it looks like there are threads on the muzzle, if so, you could just replace the shroud with a new moderator. you would need to know the thread size and might need an adapter too. There are several people making these, and some will even make custom adaptors for you if you need one. Check out DonnyFL, he has a lot of stuff on his Web sight, He might already have something for your rifle.

Appears you have 6.5" beyond the end of the muzzle.
A DonnyFL for a .25 cal FX is 5" and should do the job.
Only other option would be chop the barrel and rethread (Not recommended!)

Thanks for the responses. I ordered a mod to screw on. I'm thinking a carbon fiber rod to fill in might look good
