Title: Daisy 953 mod on another site, is it possible?
Post by: momosgarage on November 07, 2011, 02:43:59 PM
As some here already know, I have been milling over buying a Daisy 953.  I just saw on the aigunone forum that the Avanti Lothar Walther barrel can be ordered from Daisy for $60 USD and is an easy swap job.  The guy who posted the Aigunone thread also seems to have figured out a reliable power mod that will slightly increase the FPS.  Anyone familiar with this, any downsides?

The only downside is that the 953 is no longer selling for $70 USD on Amazon.  I checked recently and it has gone up to $100 USD. Is this just a seasonal increase or permanant due to demand/supply?

Aww man you're right the price on these went up big time :(
You could order direct from pyramid air (or thru amazon), they usually have a 10% discount with a coupon code.

Yeah I've heard of this epoxy mod.  Its supposed to give like 40 more fps.

There is also a trigger mod. http://www.pilkguns.com/daisy853tm.shtml (http://www.pilkguns.com/daisy853tm.shtml)

I just picked a daisy 900 from the 1990,s I think. The gun is single stroke like my 853. But the 900 is faster shooting. Very cool gun also has very nice wood grain platic stock an nice set of open sights with real metal front post. Gun is a looker an good shooter. Vel,s shooting a daisy 7.2 h-p the 900 560fps an the 853 485 fps. The 900 say,s up to 545 fps but shots over that. To bad daisy quit making them. Pretty rare gun. But when you pump the 900 it,s a little different when you bring the pump arm to the full open postion you have to wait a few second,s before you close the pump arm or you lose about 200 fps. when it,s done hissing you close the pump arm. Really like it. sorry no picture of it.

The barrel swap is an easy "bolt on" upgrade. However since the 953 is accurate the way it is, you are only going to shrink your groups by a few hundreths of an inch, maybe by a tenth of an inch. Enough to turn a few more of those 10's into X's in a bench rest match.

I love my 953, so consistent and easy to shoot it is the gun that really turned me onto AGs. It still is my plinker of choice, I am interested in the epoxy mod for an additional 40FPS....

I know is thread is crazy old, but I am thankful for it.

Just finished the epoxy mod and went from an average of 463 fps to 490 fps. I was conservative with the epoxy and filled the cavity just barely above flush and none overflowing on the rim.

I also did the trigger mod. But am not sure I like it. It did to lighten the pull immensely, but just shortened the trigger pull.

Great resource. Will play with it some more and get used to the adjustments.

weird question- is there any way to turn the 953 or an 853 into a Mult-stroke?

There one post somewhere that drilling out the hole in front of the valve will increase fps also.  I never tried it because I gave the 953 away to a friend.  Did fill the piston with epoxy also but think if there is too much void filled it may put too much strain on the cocking pivot point.  JMO

I wonder if there's a way to "combine" the 953 or 8 53 and a 880?

I don't think so. The internals are completely different. The X53 platform is setup to release its air if the cocking arm is opened again.

oh... Hmmm.  I'd love for there to be a way to turn the 853/953 into a MSP...
