Title: Hill mk5 pump issues?
Post by: kev92411 on March 11, 2023, 09:29:57 PM
Just got a Hill Mk 5 from PA - put it together and tried to fill my gun today and it wouldn’t work. Took almost 50 pumps just to charge the whip to 1000 psi and the handle keeps wanting to pop up. When not connected to the cylinder it pumps easy and air flows out the whip  It’s the weekend so I can’t contact PA but I don’t want to take it apart since it’s new. I’ve just been sitting around staring at it lol. Anybody have any similar issues with Mk 5’s.

Had the same issue with a mk4. I sent it in twice they couldn’t fix it so they refunded. I have had a Air Venturi G9 and it’s been great. It’s outlasted 2 Chinese pumps. I have a Hatsan hand pump too which is really really smooth which I use to just fill pistols

I reached out to PA this morning. The customer service tech was very friendly and it’s on its way back for replacement. The rep from customer service wasn’t aware of any ongoing issues with new mk5s.

I’m sure they’re aware if it but they stay quiet about it

Unfortunately I can also report the same MK5 Issue. Handle rebound and pump doesn't work anymore.

Likely gunk clogging up the HP valve and/or/also the little green etc o-rings need to be replaced.

The kicker is I bought the pump only 3 months ago  :-[ and it's already dead  :'(

In comparison, the MK4 it replaced lasted years until needing a rebuild.

Contacted re-seller and will update later ...

My first cheap $40 hand pump from 2018 started rebounding and getting HARD to pump after about 3 years. At about the 2-year point (2020) I saw a good sale and purchased a second $40 pump to use as a backup. When #1 failed I switched to the #2 backup and took apart #1 for diagnosis and repair.

It was a little more complicated than I had expected but I took good notes with sketches. Most o-rings were fine and I reused them. Piston seal had started to come apart and small chunks were causing check valves to leak. Piston seal was originally NOT an o-ring but more like a small section of rubber tube.

I suspect the high-dollar pumps are designed the same way, hopefully using better quality parts(?)

I replaced my piston seal with 2 stacked o-rings (tiny Buna 90A), cleaned and silicone oiled all the remaining parts, then carefully reassembled. I'm guessing check valves and/or new piston seal just need a few strokes to reset. After a few priming strokes that felt odd the pump started working like NEW.

It is still my go-to hand pump with the #2 pump stashed for backup duty if/when needed.

I now have a backup for the backup after stumbling across Amazon offering the same basic pump for $20 with free shipping. Yup, thought I was past the airgun bargain addiction but I still can't resist a really good airgun bargain ;-)
