Just getting into casting and was wanting to know what everyone is using for a temperature probe. Thanks for all advice.

All I use is this analog for pot temp, and a digital laser one to check mold temps, I can pinpoint parts of the mold where temperature is a concern.

I never thought to use my IR thermo. I've been using a Lyman casting thermo

The IR thermal does not take accurate readings of the molten lead, but I have had matching readings to the analog thermo, pointing the laser at the side of the pot or the valve plunger rod. But prefer the analog for lead temps.

Amazon here in Canada had a Lyman digital thermometer for sale, so I bought one. I just made a little tin tab, that I used one of the screws on my Lee 5# pot to stick the probe in. I melted the K probe when I was using it to smelt lead on my huge turkey burner.
