Got another promo email from Crosman.... talking about full auto BB guns. Which, now in retrospect, seems to have been the topic of the last few promo emails from Crosman.
So gotta ask, what's all this noise concerning FA bb guns? Catering to the "Modern Warfare" or "Call of Duty" crowd?
If its making them money, and or gets folks off the couch, and out shooting, then its all good. I guess my inner dinosaur is showing......
-
Yeah I got so many ..almost unsubscribed…but didnt for fear of missing the anniversary 362 mass mailing…..as for full auto BB….no thanks …would rather spend the money on something practical …like another PCP…lol…good luck
-
Ok I gotta chime in here. I'll be the first to admit I am not always "practical" in my purchases and yes I have one of the full auto BB guns. Copy of the DPMS SBR. I loved going to the local fairs when I was a kid and using the "Thompson" BB autos to shoot out the red on the targets to win a prize. Never won but it was more fun than a barrel of monkeys, at least to me and evidentally others based on the lines that I had to wait in to shoot... LOL...
Yes they are range toys. Practical? NO! Fun? You Betcha! At the range I'll shoot a few rounds, most accurate BB gun I have had by the way, flip the switch and dump the rest of the mag. Next thing I know I have a bunch of other shooters wondering what I am shooting and what kind of can it has on it because it is so quiet. I have yet to have anyone decline shooting it when I offer and never had anyone leave without a big smile on their face after pulling the trigger with a few asking where they can get one!
Sometimes Fun has to trump Practical!
Just one Old Guys opinion!

Never liked the black gun.
Wouldn’t have one in Vietnam.
Chose the M14 in stead.
But a few weeks ago I bought two DSBR rifles.
One for me and one for a friend “caniborrowsomeammo”.
With the Crosman sale price of $80.00 each how could I pass them up?

About two months ago, Crosman had a sale.
$20.00 off selected rifles.
The SBR is normally $279.00 but they had some earlier unsold models (brand new) that $100.00.
They call these: Alternate Specials..
The have some Alternate Specials now.
They come up from time to time.
You have to keep checking.
I bought two.
Right now they have a remanufactured one for $100.00.
Same warranty.

Thank you Frank.

BTW
There is a guy ion YouTube that is an expert on the SBR
Check him out..

I keep thinking that I want a full auto BB gun. I'm afraid it would distract me from serious shooting. Or maybe I'd shoot it a couple times and lose interest. I'm sure it would be useful for entertaining visiting kids. The rate of fire in the Crosmans is kind of high.
-
It's a fun distraction, hang a red dot on it and burn up so CO2 cartridges and some of those old BB's you have had sitting around for more years than you care to remember. It is a great gun for kids to shoot and yes the cycle rate is high but very quickly you learn how to feather the trigger for 3-4 round bursts. I don't take mine to the range everytime I go, just when I need a bit of entertainment.
I have no regret in buying the one I have. Just make sure your expectations are realistic, remember it is a BB Gun...

The AK1 has a slower rate of full auto fire and a much better single action trigger pull. It gets one or two fewer mags on two CO2 carts though, I think because there is less metal in the mag to dissipate the cold.

The Barra full auto rifle uses an electric motor and rechargeable LiPo battery to power the spring. It maintains the same ~400FPS through the battery charge cycle (thousands of shots) and is really accurate, according to the video review by Airgun Detectives.
It's the one I would consider purchasing. I already have the necessary battery and battery charger that work with it in my R/C airplane stuff.

Edit to add: Oops! I posted a different video than the one I mentioned. It also seems to be a good review of the rifle.

I've had for awhile a KWC Uzi co2 4.5mm steel bb smg from Evike $185 spare mags $49. Mag holds 25 BB and 1 co2 cart. About 2 mags per cart. Top plate and folding stock are metal. Also got a 12 inch mock silencer. They're out of stock now. Also got one spare mag.
Pyramyd finally got the Legends M3 grease gun co2 4.5mm steel bb smg in stock, $199, 5 stars, spare mags $50, 100% metal, 7bls. Got mine a few months ago from Grab a Gun for $174. They still have them in stock Mag hold 60 bb's and 2 co2 carts. Get about 3 mags worth of bb's on the 2 carts. I got 2 spare mags.
They are cool and lots of fun and a lot cheaper than a real Uzi or M3.

I bought my AK1 just before these came out, otherwise this is what I would have got. There's a lot of things to like about it versus CO2.

The Barra 400e looks like a good gun but, $400 plus $50 for a battery and charger is a lot of money for a BB gun.

I want nothing to do with a LIPO battery.
That is just me..

Oh now THAT tugs at my heart strings.. Buddy-o-mine has the "Real McCoy" but that would be fun!
I have been wanting the Legends M1A1 since they came out.

I had a Steel Storm FA gun a while back. Fun factor was off the chart, especially with reactive targets or soda cans
Just seems like Crosman/Velocity Outdoors is shifting their product focus ....

The Barra is definitely my first choice in full auto BB but I'm not ready to drop that kind cash on it. Maybe it'll come down in price before I'm too old to enjoy it.

I have two. The MP40 is currently with grandson#3 in SE Illinois,I have the Thompson at my house. They fill a niche when you want to blast something. You do go through CO2 like crazy tho.
-
I would like to try the Barra electric full auto BB gun. Most of the FA bb guns are CO2, and I have no interest in that.

Many can be converted to HPA, there's all kinds of adapters out there. They are a LOT of fun but they also go thru a LOT of CO2 cartridges so I will be bottle feeding my Crosman SBR, and maybe my sons' too if it works out well.
-
The magazines hold 25 BBs and two CO2 cartridges.
One other very important item..
The valve.
Each magazine holds a valve.
-
It's a funny niche in the market that becomes more relevant with an increased offer of reactive and moving targets...
-
I use mine for walking out on the range to reset targets. That and my trusty side arm, I can take out any ninja cans and or stealth targets we missed at distance!
As practical as any toy, but it's the set up that didn't exist when I was young enough to dream about them. Because let's face it..... We all are setting up the guns we wanted when we would walk the railroad tracks at 10 plinking anything in sight! Now we have the credit cards to make them reality!!!! Never grow up;-)
-
What gun guy wouldn't want a sub machine gun? My M3 and Uzi co2 bb smg's are a lot cheaper and easier to shoot.
-
I have an old Umarex Steel Storm that still works good.

OK, I know this is an OLD Thread, stumbled on it by accident, but I have got to chime in after reading a couple posts about FA BB Guns and some talk about whether Suppressors (silencers) work.
I'm going to preface this by stating I'm a Gunsmith (real steel and Airsoft customs, like expensive ones), and a Spl Ops Vet in the USAF from a rather long time ago. Anyway, I shoot real steel competition, you name it, but my love is Run n Gun and Speed Match. We have a team, actually several, all vets from young to more than capable "older", Marines, USAF, Army (we tolerate them) and Navy (we let them "clean up", mops). Shooting has gotten expensive (Ammo) and we were looking for cheap ways to "Practice" mostly Run n Gun and Speed Matches. I stumbled onto the KWC (Taiwan) made Crosman CO2 "M4 FA/Semi-auto" BB rifles. Some are very "realistic", not as much as Airsoft M4 are, but the weight was right, operation same, they are blow back and most importantly they hit targets HARD. Most Run n Gun competition uses STEEL Targets and you have to hear the hit "RING OUT" loud or no points, and while ranges are 25 yards to 100 yards, we are able to scale back the 100 yards to 25 with shrunken targets. The Crosman "KWC" M4's have no problem to hit targets VERY accurately to 35 yards and still HARD. We also use CO2 Semi-auto PELLET 1911's and usually one of the SIG Sauer models that are insanely accurate to PLUS 25 yards.
My choices are the KWC Crosman R1 SA/FA M4 with a 16" barrel, and the Crosman CQB "Bushmaster" with a 10" barrel. My pistol choice is the SIG Sauer P226 SEALS version. I tweak everyone's Crosman M4's to get 550fps with copper BB's and the SIG Sauers stock do 450fps with a domed .177 Pellet.
We also have four teams (Squad size) for MilSim Airsoft Matches. That's another story.
Now the subject of Suppressors on CO2 BB FA/SA rifles. THEY WORK if they are made right. As I said I'm a licensed FFL Gunsmith and I make custom Suppressors for real steel weapons, yes you have to buy a Federal Tax Stamp to buy and own one.
I also make Suppressors for Airsoft guns .... and BB Guns. They aren't just some "foam" shoved inside a tube, they are essentially the same design internally as ones for a real steel suppressor. The difference is the material isn't steel, it's a sound absorbent semi-hard material shaped the same in numerous disks in the "tube". One of these on either of my KWC Crosman CO2 M4's and you only hear the "CLACK CLACK of the Bolt in Blow Back, there is now muzzle sound. As you know, CO2 guns are a LOUD.
But you can make a silencer / Suppressor with easy to work with with "closed cell foam" too and almost get noiseless shooting. The KEY is the Density of the Foam! The HIGHER the frequency of the firing "Crack", the lower the density of foam is needed, the LOWER the frequency, the more dense the foam. That's the only hint you get.
My babies:
KWC Crosman R1 "CFAR" with (my) Suppressor
KWC Crosman CBQ "Bushmaster" with (my) Suppressor.
SIG Sauer CO2 P226 Navy model
