I'm working on documenting the Reg. and Lot numbers from Daisy. I have done some research and found some good info on the Daisy Museum site, but the info is incomplete and some of it is ambiguous. I am trying to put a more complete and easier to understand document together. Ultimately I would like to create a page at TheDaisyBase where a Reg/Lot number can be entered and the user gets the date of manufacture and production sequence returned. If anyone has more info please add here so I can incorporate it.
Here we go:
Year 1972
Lot/Reg No. Begins with A0 or B0 it was made in 1972, but the month cannot be determined. The remaining numbers are the production sequence for that model that month.
I do not have an example for this.
Year 1973-1981
Lot/Reg Numbers that start with a letter followed by 6 digits. The number after the letter is the last digit of the year of manufacture from 1973 to 1981 (i.e. A2 = 1972, A5 = 1975, A0 = 1980). The next five digits is the production sequence. The letter represents the month of manufacture, codes below, (Noticed I was not used so not to be confused as the number 1).
A = January
B = Febuary
C = March
D = April
E = May
F = June
G = July
H = August
J = September
K = October
L = November
M = December
G603000 = July 1976 3000th 880 produced.

Year 1982 - 1991
Lot Number that begins with a digit then a letter. The first digit is the last digit of the year of manufacture from 1982 to 1991. The letter is the month of manufacture using the codes above (i.e 6D16523 = made 1986 and was the 16523th gun made) . The next five digits is the production sequence.
7J18120 = September 1987 18120th 880 manufactured

Year 1992 - 1994
Lot Number that begins with two digits then a letter then five digits from 1992 into 1994, except 20th aniversary (1992) which uses the schema above. This schema uses the month codes above. 92C34034 = March 1992, 2B10349 = Febuary 1992 20th Anniversary Model
I do not have an example Pic for these years.
Year 1994 - 2011
Lot Number starts with four digits. The first two digits are the number of the month, the next two digits are the last two digits of the year, starting in 1994 - 2011.
0103 01493 = January 2003 this was the 1493th 822 made.

Year 2010 - 2017
Lot Number 12 digits and a letter. 2010-2017 This needs further explanation to understand.
Date codes changed to:
F : Jan
G : Feb
H : Mar
J : Apr
K : May
M : Jun
N : Jul
Q : Aug
U : Sep
V : Oct
X : Nov
Z : Dec
I do not have an example of this schema
Year 2017 - Present
Lot No is 16 digits and a new format for the letter suffix of the month. The first two digits indicate the production facility, the next two are the year, then a production sequence/QC number and finally the letter indicating the month.
A: January
B: Febuary
C: March
D: April
E: May
F: June
G: July
H: August
I: September
J: October
K: November
L: December
05212202231250136J = October 2021

Other than curiosity these dates are important to know the configuration of certain guns. Such as cast metal vs stamped pump arm, clear metal receivers vs warning panel, pressed barrel vs clamped, etc..... I suspect the differences in designs will also be important in the future.
I will start putting design change years and covered reg/lot numbers together so just by having a reg/lot no you'll be able to see what its configuration is.
I could use help for the missing examples above. I also need more info on the 2010-2017 reg/lot no schema.

I will dig through my small pile of 880s and see what I have to offer. I have one .177 rifled barrel one for sure, and an assortment of others.
-
So it turns out the best metal receivers were made from June 85 - March 87. Those receivers are wide port no billboard. If your wanting to upgrade plastic to metal those are the ones you want to target. Any metal receivers after June 85 will have the wide loading port and are preferable but the ones in the date range provided will not have the warning billboard cast into the left receiver.

True for the earlier plastic receiver 880's.....................not the ones made in the orient......

I use them on the newer guns too but it does require removing some metal from the receivers around the breach. Especially need the metal receivers for eventually adding wood furniture. I've been burning a few brain cells on making steel hammer and trigger pieces too. Thinking case hardening also. I'm pushing these pieces pretty hard so steel would work better and allow a better trigger pull. I can lengthen the safety tab and safely shorten the pull while using a really strong hammer spring. I have a plan but no time at the moment.

I do not but I will ask next time I call Daisy. If anyone else has them and wants to share I'll add them to the website.

That's a wealth if info.
Will be studying this for a while.
We bought the 880 new I think in 74.
Family had a summercamp/hunting lodge
in the Allegheny Forest up around Kinzua Lake.
Can't even imagine how many shots thru it. Mostly BB's.
Need to find a bolt handle and a loading door for it.

A bolt handle from a new bolt will work but the bolt itself will not. Ronno6 in this forum can help you if you need the entire bolt. If you are referring to the sliding load door on the left receiver I'm sure there are plenty of those floating around. Send me a PM before spending money on one.
-
Yea, just need the charging handle, not the whole bolt.
Bought a Complete seal kit from RONNO6 just to have it.
Still shoots pretty good for it age and being all original.

Daisy has both parts probably for less than I can mail them to you......
The charging handle is too thick to mail in a letter envelope so we're looking at about $4.00 in shipping.........
-
Thanks RONNO6
Need to call Daisy in next few days anyway to check/order parts.

Maybe this info should be a sticky
