Title: Apolo .25 cal Slug 33gr review
Post by: Spacebus on October 25, 2022, 07:58:44 PM
I ordered some Apolo slugs from the Hatsan website weeks ago, but hadn't had a chance to test until today. I shot about ten magazines making five decent groups. Conditions were poor; breezy, 100% humidity, getting dark, and I'm less than 100' above sea level. Rifle is a .25 caliber Eagle Claw with full length barrel (not the carbine) making about 70-75 FPE. No chrono data, yet, but this same rifle sends NSA 33.5 grain 250" slugs at 975 FPS.

In better conditions I have no doubt these slugs are capable of sub 1 MOA groups, but I was between 1-2 MOA on my tighter groups even still. The zero was the same at 33 yards as 50 yards, which is great for hunting. I expect shots to be low any closer than 33 yards, but haven't really tested that. Unfortunately, I don't really have a suitable space for going much beyond 65 yards, so I'll have to wait for a range day to test long range accuracy. However, I have no reason to believe these Apolo slugs would be any less than 1 MOA at 100 yards.

For what it's worth, these slugs are every bit as good as the NSA .250" slugs in 33.5 grain.

The first pic of groups is from sighting in, then 33 yard groups, followed by 50 yard groups. The right hand 50 yard group could have been tighter but it was getting dark and my eyes were tired. There was a flyer in the left hand group at 50 yards, not sure if that was me or the wind, but not bad still.

I also included pics of my shooting "bench" and what it looked like while shooting.

Field Supply has these in stock now, just ordered a couple tins for testing in my Airforce Escape UL. The Escape likes Nick's 33.5 gn slugs so I think these could be a less costly alternative. Will post more when the slugs arrive in a couple days.

The only difference as far as I can tell is the slight dish base and maybe a bit larger HP cavity. They make a nice SLAP when they hit a squirrel.

I haven't shot this gun in a while, but very happy with the Apolo slugs and will be buying them when I need more.

I too am very happy with the Apolo 33 gn slugs shooting from my Airforce Escape UL. Bought several tins to make sure I have some on hand for the future.
