Title: Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 AO torture test!
Post by: Bayman on September 03, 2022, 11:50:07 AM
Here's my R1 with a Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 AO strapped to it. This R1 is oversprung and has recently shook debris loose in two Airmax 3-9x40 scopes and trashed a Sportsmatch Dampa mount. This Vantage has been on the gun for at least 1500 shots since August 24. It's been my test mule for the last two or three years been on several springers including some more normal R1s.

A few months ago it rolled off my shooting bench, fell 3' onto a concrete floor and folded over the edge of the objective bell. I contacted Hawke and was willing to pay for the repair but they don't repair scopes. They told me if it stops working that they will still replace it under their no fault warranty. Hmmm?

With that kind of warranty and the Dampa mount out of commission I solid mounted the Vantage scope to the R1 that's destroyed everthing on it. Oddly the scope only rated for <12fpe springers is still working great. I'm not sure how long it will continue to work but I'm amazed it's lasted this long.

I'm not advocating buying a Vantage scope for >12fpe springers. I just thought this showed well of Hawkes durability and warranty.

Torture Test, Destructive Testing!
I like it. ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

They test concrete by crushing little samples.

Perhaps you could see how effected by heat your scope is.  Maybe leave it in the sun for a couple of hours?  I understand that this can be a real problem with scope internal workings.
I assume that it is a front objective parallax adjustment?  I think they are more robust.

Keep us posted.

I went to the range today. I was rushed by a pistol match. The bottom five groups were from the R1 Vantage scope combo after a quick guess at dialing it down with no sighters. It did alright at almost 20 fpe.

I have a Nikko Stirling Airking mounted on a 17 ft lb Gamo   I dropped it and it fell onto the scope . Bent the turret cover and the rim around the objective lens . I rezeroed it and carried on shooting   Not as good as a Hawje but still a tough scope

You ever see someone droop test or slump test wet concrete with that cone shaped thing.

Ron, Can I ask what mounts are you using?
I may need one for the Gamo Wildcat Whisper I just bought. It came with a Gamo scope that is not highly thought of.

Nope.  Just where they take what looks like a 2" diameter cylinger that is about3" long an squish it until it breaks. :-[
