Title: Unexpected #7 rattus
Post by: ranchibi on August 22, 2022, 12:38:09 AM
After having zero rat traffic for a couple months, I got 3 in a week! One was using a trap on Friday night, a large female by the trash cans. After the last big male, the day after, the PB was all gone, I mean licked CLEAN. I was thinking maybe a couple new ones took over but while just peering using binos at around 8:20pm I saw this large one eating at the station. I usually let it be when I'm not setup but this one was just a little skittish (not staying too long to eat giving me time to set up) so I quickly I mean quickly opened the window, loaded a sleeping pill into the Prod, set up the tripod (which is always right there at the ready by the window), turned the illuminated reticle on, peered thru the scope and it was still there but just as I saw it it teleported up and onto the wall hiding behind the trees leaves but I could  see her eyes glowing and saw them head downward onto the platform so I quickly got it in my sights placing the dot on it's vitals and pulled the trigger...crack....saw it slump down and no movement. Large female and looks to be with pups, shot through her neck and into and out her vttals as the pellet passed thru and hit the back stop, must have severed the spine on the way thru, a 14" female.

Great shooting Randall!  Sounds like you took care of 6 or 7 in one shot!  Hopefullt, there will be more where that one came from.

I did see one by my bait station yesterday afternoon, but it was headed toward the woods!  I'm just hopeing he was headed off to tell all his buddies he just found the Mother Load!   ;D

LOL Brent! True words! And, thank you very much! I might have to rethink my rat culling as it has been slim pickings the last few years although the PB was all gone this morning so there is another one! Maybe their numbers have increased during covid! LOL!
