Title: Any other mods for an igt break barrel??
Post by: Briroc26 on July 29, 2022, 08:02:21 PM
Hey ! I have a 10x swarm whisper igt .22 , warranty is up .iv already honed and deburred, adjusted the trigger and  changed the seals and it hits hard ,what else can I do besides actually changing the trigger ?? Anyway to make it hit harder ? Now that the warranty is up and its not an expensive gun I'd like to play around with it. Iv read about adding spacers to the piston for more power but can't find much info on that .are their any other modifications that anyone knows of for these type of guns ??

Spring spacers can incrementally and only up to coil bound increase muzzle energy in a coil spring breakbarrel. This is usually at the expense of increased wear on pivot joints and seals as well as harsher shot cycle and a decrease in accuracy.

Spacers will do nothing to increase muzzle energy for a gas spring rifle. You would need to increase pressure in the gas spring for more muzzle energy, but the same negatives for a coil springer will likely apply. Most gas springs are SEALED and there is no safe or easy way to increase the pressure. In some air springs (Hatsan Vortex) you can change the internal pressure but increasing beyond what the rifle was DESIGNED FOR will add those negative side effects again.

Bottom line is if you NEED more muzzle energy, get a BIGGER air rifle designed to shoot AT the higher muzzle energy.

Got the same rifle without all the extra work. Seems to hit plent hard to flip a 3 inch spinner around at 15m with crosman domes.

If you're looking for additional tinkering, find a broken gun and bring it back to life. Its fun watching a previously poor performer turn into a nail driver.

There are lots of mods you can do to a Gamo. They are pretty good guns but very poorly presented by the manufacturer. I am not familiar with the swarm but I am veery firmly in the IGT camp  Most Gamos have too many rattley plastic bits on them  They are better without. They are usually oversprung to reach the ridiculous 1000 fps mark . Muzzle crowns are usually poorly done and the barrels too long. The piston seals are too hard and often damaged on assembly at the factory and they are grossly over greased . I have even discovered A Gamo a new Gamo with a split breech seal   there are lots of things you can do to a Gamo to make them good. Just depends how far you want to go but is is fun

Have you chronied the rifle to see what speed [ fps ] it is shooting & with what pellet weights ?  I would test that first.

Haven't chronied it yet .. going on distance ,accuracy, penetration .. I can 100% see the difference since the work iv done and the new seals I installed . Was Just curious of what else can be done to it
