Anybody know why the AGF site is down?
-
It's been a now 6 page discussion on another UK gun forum I belong to and so far, no one has a clue. AGF went dark and no one has been able to find or
contact the owner to try and get any kind of answers on what happened.
No warnings to moderators or members it was going to happen. People who know him personally have been trying and apparently in vain, to contact him
and have even resorted to trying area hospitals to see if something happened that he needed to be in one.

One of the AGF moderators has posted the very sad news that the forum owner passed away a couple of weeks ago; it's possible that, with a missed payment for this month, the host company took the site down at midnight on the last day of June.
The hosts may not allow any third party access to the admin control panel without proof of probate, which takes time to arrange, and the owner's family obviously have far more on their minds than an Internet forum, so it probably won't be a priority. The mods are trying to start a new forum from scratch.

Thanks for the update for us Yankees. This must be a tragedy for the family and I’m sure many of us airguners would want to send our condolences. That said, it would also be a shame to lose all of the knowledge and community connections that were developed there. I hope that the owners of GTA have future proofed the existence of this forum incase anything unfortunate happens.

Latest news is the mods have been given one week by the hosting company to get as much data from the site as possible to transfer onto a new forum.
So AGF is temporarily back online.

I see that the site is still up. Is it safe to assume the transfer operation was successful?

The domain name being registered to the deceased, the mods registered airgunforums.co.uk (note the added 's'), and populated the new site with stuff they managed to move across from the old site.

Thanks, I hadn’t noticed the ‘s’ and just assumed it was the same site. Glad there are good folks in the UK trying to save the site.
It’s not always obvious to people but the internet lacks permanence. There is tons of information disappearing from the internet everyday.

I just signed up under "Lt.Dan".
It's going to be quite interesting to read some of the posts from our airgun brothers across the pond.
