I had saved this a while back until I could find some time to fool with the video clip and draft it up. Having tried a number of hunting pellets over the years that either lack sufficient accuracy or that don't actually expand, I've mainly stuck with wadcutters and domes for pest control out to 30 - 35 yards.
Then along came one that is both accurate and expands, from one of the names I would have least expected: Daisy
Their .22 hollow points group nicely from several guns, from a $100 FD-PCP to a regulated LW-barreled QB. A couple of example groups at 30 yards (white circle is the size of an aspirin):

Anyway the purpose of this post is to show an example of what they will do to a gray squirrel...
Quick summary
- 26.5fpe muzzle energy (883fps)
- 16.8fpe at 30yds (704fps)
- Vitals shot. Soft tissue only. No bone.
- Pellet came to rest just under the hide on the opposite side.
- Expanded to a frontal area 47% larger than an unfired pellet (0.263" vs 0.217")

I was just about to post on shooting Daisy's with my CZ-200!
I was feeling strong enough to shoot some pellets, so I placed a target 10 yards away and randomly picked up a very old tin of 177 cal, 7.5 grain Daisy's. I was shocked at the 3 shot group.
LOL, shooting Daisy's with the CZ-200!
I don't have any terminal performance information to report, I was just surprised at the group. Your group is MUCH better because it's 30 yards, mine is only 10 yards.
I will stretch it out when I'm up to it.

I've had the same experience as you. I wish I had bought 10,000 of them while they were so cheap. I think I ended up with 4000

If I'm not mistaken those are the same. I posted the Amazon link because it's the same one we used when they were cheap. When I went back, it said purchased 3 times before.

Jason, nice find and great news that it's ACCURATE and has nice expansion! Good write up.

HunterWhite, I'd be interested to know how the 177s do for you when you give them some more distance. The tins I got seem to do well from a LW barrel:

But not much else. Whereas the 22s seem to fare well in a variety of barrels. I do tend to find a few malformed pellets in each tin that I discard as I'm shooting. Those with a defect around the perimeter of the head will fly errantly by as much as an inch at 30 yards so those will trash a group if they're allowed in. Thankfully they're pretty easy to spot.
Ed, yes sir I remember your comments from the original Amazon buy and the crazy expansion you got on water jugs. I'll admit I was skeptical because I've seen other pellets expand impressively in water or gel that did nothing of the sort on actual game. But the Daisies deliver!
brewbear, I just want to confirm your link to Daisy is a match. The picture on the tin is wrong and apparently they never intend to update it but I've ordered from them twice over the last couple of years and received the deep dish version shown in the original post.

Got my Daisy Hollow Points in today in 22 caliber --- they look very good, they all seem pretty uniform and all tins came in well above average shape for a non Pyramid shipment :-)
Gonna be trying them out tomorrow at about 35 yd for accuracy out of my Crosman Vantage in 22 cal.

Had a chance to try the Daisy wadcutters belt clip box, I got in the shipment, was shooting at a plastic 5 gal pail with target on it, was keeping them under a quarter @ 20 yards, furthest I plan to shoot them in my pp700sa, punched a clean hole in the target and the front of the bucket, left dents in the backside 8) pellets broke up and stayed in the bucket.

52 yards with the 22 HPs. The one that went low left could have been me.
-
Anyone try them from a springer? Most of my springers are 16 fpe or less at the muzzle. I wonder if the results would be nearly as good.
-
I probably should have mentioned I was pushing them too fast. I've been shooting slugs in my Cayden so they were flying around 940 fps.
-
Ed, didn't you grease a chipmunk with a P-rod running about 16fpe?

I did, but it was around 14 fpe at the muzzle. Hit it at almost 25 yards and the pellet was starting to expand and didn't pass through.

I'll give them a try in my R1. I pity the bushy tail that I test these on! Lol

After seeing this, I had to test a few in .22 caliber. My AA S510 just doesn't care for these pellets at all, maybe the Cayden would but It's all set up for JSB 18's and haven't tried anything else. My Benji 392 & 392S seems to like them, but not sure they'll shoot fast enough to open up. Haven't tried (the 22's) in any springers, but bet the Hatsan 125 would push them fast enough.
In .177 the Daisy/Winchester H.P.'s (same pellets) do very well from my Maximus. Unfortunately, all I can squeeze for range with the 177's is 40-45 yards (from several guns/velocities) before they destabilize and spiral.
-
My Cayden does well with them out to 30 yards or so but it's pushing them too fast for longer ranges and I haven't tried turning it down yet.
