So I was looking around at different mods, upgrades, what not, and I saw Talon Tunes offering shroud extension and reservoir extension. I'm very interested in them but I noticed something. On there website they show test results of a .25 Marauder before and after the Reservoir extension. They say they took a brand new, completely stock Marauder shot from 3000psi to 1700psi and got 27 shots, with a peak FPE of about 41. After the extension they got an additional 12 shots.
This doesnt sound right to me, considering I just bought one and I get 16 shots shootng from 3000psi-2000psi. I might get 20 going down to 1700psi. I was also told that Marauders stock are around 45 FPE. I dont really mind that I only get 16 per fill, I'm just curious as to why the big difference in numbers?
-
Stating the number of shots without the range of velocities is pretty meaningless.... a Disco gets 24 shots within a 4% window but 30 within 10%.... If your 16 shots are within 4% at 45 FPE I can well believe they are getting 27 shots PEAKING at 41 FPE if they count all the shots within 10% velocity (ie down to 33 FPE)....

Yeah I dont have any numbers for mine, havent bought a chrony yet. Talon Tunes has chrony numbers for all there shots with and without the reservoir. Heres the link http://www.talontunes.com/ttmarauder.html (http://www.talontunes.com/ttmarauder.html)
-
In the first string, I would personally throw out the first 5 shots and the last 3.... that makes 19 shots within 4% of the 856 fps maximum.... On the second string, the maximum is 854, which means I wouldn't count anything below 820, eliminating the first 7 and the last 4, leaving a total of 28 shots.... How many shots you consider "good" depends strictly on your criteria.... The average energy over the 4% string is about 40 FPE....
Just to get a feel for what a 4% tolerance means at 50 yards.... the vertical change in POI is about 0.27" (just over one pellet diameter).... They used about a 7% tolerance (including shots down to about 795 fps).... which moves the vertical spread out to about 0.4".... At 10% variation, the POI spread would be about 0.55"....

Ah, I understand it now. Thanks for the explaination. So they're just playin with numbers to make it look more impressive.
But will the extension still yield an extra 30%? Hypothetically (dont have chrony) if my gun is pushin 45fpe, 4% deviation, and getting 16 shots, if I add this it will give me ~20 shots, keeping everything the same?
-
They don't give the volume of the extension.... but if it's 30% then the extra number of shots should match that....
Bob
-
Yeah kind of sux they dont give the volume, a little math should get a rough estimate. Honestly, I'm really thinking about getting it because I want to up the power in my MRod. Not sure how far I want to take it but the more air available, the better.
-
I would not waist your money at talon tunes.. over priced. For the "mods" that he offered there are pretty useless. Citrus Airguns or Greg Davis is the way to go with Mrod tunes.
My Mrod is at Critrus airguns now, LW barrel, 30" one piece airtube, full tune, etc.. money well spent.
-
Is Greg Davis still tuning? The last i knew, he was sick. He is a airgun genius.
-
I've also heard about greg davis, and that hes sick. Also cant find his website online (pretty sure hes got one somewhere).
The main reason I brought up talon tunes is because I cant find anyone else that makes parts for the Marauder who has a site with info. Checked out Citrus Airguns website and it doesnt have any info except they can make parts and tune but show nothing on there site. Talon Tunes is the only one I've come across actually showing anything on their site.
-
Greg did have a site on network 54 but they temporarily shut down until he gets caught up on his orders and feeling better.
-
I have also had my marauder tuned by Citrus Airguns. Mike Kobel(owner) is a whiz with M-rod platform and will tune your gun specifically to your pellet of choice- he is just getting going and his website is still being constructed-for tunes-his turnaround time is~3 weeks, depending on what is done- in my case, he did complete tune with custom valve work(heavier valve and hammer spring and opened up valve), added 24" L/W barrel,30" one-piece airtube, custom stripper and baffles(aluminum) and adjusted to get 65-70 shots with Jsb 15.9 at 980 fps. Any additional adjustment only involves spring travel(in my case I turned it in to drop to 920fps.avg.
He is available daily at 352-418-2069 but has aregular job so keep trying or e-mail:romancetech@yahoo.com
Some videos of my gun over chrony while tuning

What was the pellet weight in the first string?.... I count 38 shots within 4%.... ie between 1006 and 1048 fps.... Pretty decent string with the bigger air tube and longer barrel....
Bob

These were Jsb 15.9's- my go to pellet-the other pellet was my next tune request(video 2) 21gr. kodiaks- and basically can shoot to same poa up to 90yds- he was shooting hot on the 1st video and after bringing down to 920 for accuracy, I got 65-70 shots on the 15.9s with a 3200 fill and maybe 2 shots with valve lock-still at poa-came out of the gate like a racehorse and only got better

Hi Bob I would put the volume of the extension at 37cc waist of time that is why I use the custom 30 inch air tube
no space loss due to nipple [IE] 6" extension losses 1 7/16 " for the fill nipple 17/8" for the nipple so your 6" is now truely only a 2 11/16" volume wise you will never get any real tech info on these products as most of the ones makeing them dont have a clues as to how it is calculated.our tube offers about 86cc more than stock which is 215
ours is 301cc. As to weather his tune with the extension is a good one lets just say I've done better with a completely stock mrod and the videos are out their my mrod Pistol not to be confused with the prod as mine is an actual mrod cut down is getting 14 shots off 114cc at 915 fps with H&N 21 gr.in 25 cal had it up to as high as 1017 but the valve cracks after 10 or so shots work in progress LOL and yes my sight will be open soon with lots of great deals not just custom stuff but guns ammo scopes aquireing vendors and setting up the site takes time
I appologize
-
the stock 25 cal is not set to any predetermined fpe it is assemled and shot over the chrony if it hits 740 on the chrony it gets boxed 22 cal is 840 that is directly from reliable crosman source during conversatios as to what i did to their gun in my videos

-
So you have an airstripper inside an extended shroud and then beffles? Thats a lot stuffed in there! Can I ask why you also went with the airstripper?
-
Air stripper is required to bleed off HPA in order to quiet(along with baffles)-Standard barrel is 20" L/W- is 23 7/8" -standard M-rod has plastic stripper and plastic baffles(delrin)-he makes an aluminum stripper(threaded on barrel) and also aluminum baffles that do a better job of being quiet-or you can go with stock and he can cut off barrel and go with stock shroud and baffles-all depends on what you want and $,He's very reasonable for the work-just depends on what level you want to reach- can do basic tune and fix Crosman barrel-or green mtn. in the case of .25(which is probably done right)-thats why I say call and discuss- case by case situation- if it works-don't need to fix it-he's had to do a complete teardown on 3 g.davis builds that had no power and were NOT accurate-he will not do what is not necessary- mine is getting 1/2"cloverleaf@ 90 yds-he believes in video evidence to back what he promotes.if required I will post pic of 2 groups(1@ 45yds.-20shots and 4 @ 90yds)
-
caliber is not an issue as to the price My good buddy steve has posted my cost list
sorry for not getting a reply out last night but lost the comp for 3 hours. any questions

Welcome mike -- I saw some "citrus" tuned mrods out there and wondered about that :)
