i have to buy a press locally for swaging slugs, how many kg of force does it need to press 5mm wire of pure lead? i can source a small one of 100kg or a proper arbor press of 500kg for more money but im afraid its overkill

I would contact the Die Mfg. I'm sure they can recommend one. It doesn't require a Corbin press though. :o

I have a Redding 700 Ultra Mag. It swages .223 boolits using spent .22 casings and pure lead inserts. I swage the inserts to proper weight from cast lead blanks. Any press with dual arms to support the head should work. The Ultra Mag might give you a better mechanical advantage due to size and length of the arm.

i donīt have any of those options available here but i guess half a ton at a good gear ratio should be enough right?

If that is all that is available to you then the more the better. You will never regret having a more powerful press if you are able to use it for other jobs.
