It's official.....fed ex delivered a "new to me" baby girl at 10:15 am. She is a beeman hw97k in .20 cal and needless to say I am enamoured! She is a beaut...but then again, doesn't every papa feel that way about their new baby?? Anyway...this is my first springer and I've shot her a couple of times. The previous owner says he has only put about 300 pellets thru her. I have noticed when shooting, when I open the breech to put another pellet in, there is just a bit of smoke coming out of the barrel and there is a faint smell of oil (at least that what I think I smell). Since I'm new to this business and am always looking for more info....it this normal or a sign that there is a problem?? Sorry no pictures yet...every time I try to down load the site says my "attachment is too big" and I can only assume it is talking about my picture??!! :D

"smoke coming out of the the barrel"
No worries as long as it goes away or lessens over time, it's just a small amount of lube and condensation. Are you getting a "crack" noise (like a .22 PB) when you shoot?
Use photo-bucket on-line to upload and post your pics, it's free and you just post a link to your photos when you make a post here.
This forum only allows a very small amount of upload data, it's frustrating.

nope...no "crack"noise. thanks for your response...makes me feel better.
-
You have a GREAT gun there, treat her well and she will last 3 lifetimes.

HW over lubes their gun's! as long as theirs no detonation {cracking like a .22} I wouldn't worry about it to much unless it gets to bad, I always find lube on top of the piston seals on new HW/Beeman guns that's just how they come from the factory, but if it starts to detonate you'll need to clean it out and lube it correctly! :P

Congrats on your new baby girl TKAI. :)
-
Have you decided on a name, or is that taking it too far? :)
-
No name yet....was going to ask for suggestions but I thought maybe that just might make me crazy??!! Buuuttt since someone else mentioned it........NAMES ANYONE??
-
No recommendation for a name but a small amount of smoke is normal for a new gun. As long as you don't hear any detonation or notice any shots that seem out of the ordinary, I would just shoot her a lot. Get a good scope, lots of different pellets and sit back and enjoy. The 97 is known for exceptional accuracy.
Also, welcome to the GTA. We're glad you're here.

Thanks Johnnyboy....any recommendations on scopes? There are so many out there.....it makes choosing an airrifle seem like a breeze. while you are at it...any recommendations on scopes for a webley patriot (uk) .25??

Congratulations on the new child. ;D You sure picked a nice springer for a "first-born". I've had the chance to shoot that very same gun, and I must say it handles and shoots very well, not to mention its great looks. Have lots of fun breaking in your new toy, and let us know how things go with her!

Awesome first shooter! Congrats.
-
nicccccccccccccce choice! 8) mines named helga.....named after that smokin' hot gal from hogan's heros. ;D..enjoy her

Congrats on a fine shooter. I really enjoy my 97k .22. They shoot as good as they look. ;D
I set mine up with a Hawke Eclipse SF 4x16x50 and sportmatch adj. mounts. A little more mag then it needs but it has been working very well.
I would recommend getting the best scope you can. A fine rifle like the HW97K deserves good glass.
