my .25 impact m3 compact.
in watching all the fx impact videos about setting the probe depth (whether it be pellet or pin probe)
it would seem mine is set too far out.
but i am not sure so ill ask ;D
do i want it as far forward as will allow so the block that holds the probe does not protrude into the mag area upon closing of the bolt?
or would that place it too far forward and choke off airflow at the transfer port?
also, is the m3 the same as the mkII in that the adjustment is done the same way?
thanks in advance :)

Sorry, can't help with the actual measurement.
But when I had my mk2 and was porting it. To insure all was lined up. I chambered a pellet....pulled the barrel with chambered pellet. Pulled my probe and slid my probe up to the chambered pellet. That way I could visually check that everything was lined up where it should be.
Easy to do and check with the Impact.

thats basically what i was going to do.
just to make sure i didnt adjust the probe too far forward and restrict airflow. (dont know if my thinking is correct)
although the small bit of retraction that the probe does at the end of closing would have to be taken in to account,
should be easy to mark the probe with tape for that reason.

also,
am i correct in thinking i can take the top rail off to make the probe adjustment without degassing the gun?
as i said, its my first impact so im not sure :) but will degas anyway until i find out otherwise lol

No, you cannot take the top rail off when pressurized. The rail is the glue that holds it all together.
As far as the probe you just want to make sure your ammo is just clearing the port and not in the port to get damaged. Any distance beyond the port's edge just takes away speed. I'd do what RDB suggest determining this.

If you’re not wasting your time with the pin probe, setting the stock probe is pretty straightforward. On all my Impacts it usually is forward enough that the mag just clears it. You’ll know if you’re too far forward because you’ll feel it in your linkage right before you have the cocking lever closed. Guys that leave it that way eventually have linkage pin problems. I just set the probe initially then seat a projectile. Then I mark the probe when it’s forward the most which is right before the cocking lever snaps shut. Then I pull the barrel and probe and visually inspect how things look through the transfer port. Then I dress the probe up and put it all back together. All of my M3’s came with a really jacked up probe setting. To the point of it being embarrassing. Ironically they shot pellets well when I test fired them when they arrived but I never tried to stretch them out. Then it was time to immediately start fixing those $2k guns. The pin probe is useless unless you use a single shot loader. Use that money for something else. The Impact doesn’t need help in that area.

i use a single shot loader alot,
but not going to a pin probe.
i do have the huma high flow slug and pellet probe on the way though,
i have some slugs that show promise so i thought i could play with seating depth.
you said all of your m3's came with messed up probe settings, were they too far out?
mine seems to be too far out.
attached is pics with the action open and closed.
the block that holds the probe comes nowhere near the mag opening when closing the bolt.

Gotta mark the probe with a sharpie like I said in my post and pull the barrel. Just looking at it like in your pics doesn’t mean squat. What matters is if it is just seating your projectile in the liner and how much of the front of the probe is blocking the TP once the probe retracts a little after the cocking lever is closed. Those little airflow things don’t mean a whole lot with a gun that has so much power on tap. But getting your probe to just seat the projectile and not having it hanging out into the TP does. Especially with slugs. Dirty air is your enemy. Good luck with that .25 and slugs. I’ve had 2 of them and they are extremely finicky. My .25 M3 is now wearing a TJ barrel I built for it. With slugs and especially if you primarily hunt, you are going to discover some things that aren’t going to make you very happy about that gun.

I would like to add, save your money on all the aftermarket power do dads for the M3. The gun doesn’t need them. My 2 MKII ‘s had Huma probes and TP’s. I didn’t put any of that stuff on my M3’s. The guns make plenty of power. Money and time needs to be spent on making them every day all the time consistent. Save your money for lead. Your going to need it.

appreciate the replies.
i dont feel a need to really bump the power up.
i feel,as you said, that it has enough on tap already.
got the huma probe primarily because i run the barrel on the slug transfer port,
so,
i figured the enlarged port on the huma would at least give me a more efficient less turbulent transfer of air to the pellet/slug.
found the factory setting was leaving a bit of the skirt showing in the transfer port,
(pic below)
so tore her down and made the adjustment.
(didnt take a picture of the "after" lol)
now i gotta go SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOT it today ;D
