Title: Need Advice: UTG Bug Buster Compact CQB for Banjamin PROD?
Post by: Senor Ramon on June 04, 2022, 09:21:32 PM
Hello all:

Thank you for letting me join. New here to the forums and new to air guns but not new to fire arms.

I just purchased and am waiting to get a PROD delivered. Also ordered an AR15 stock and a BSA red dot (for under 15 yards pesting, some plinking).

I am still searching for a scope under $150 for a little longer range (under 50 yards). The UTG Bug Buster Compact CQB seems compact and has good reviews for its price point.

So my questions are:

1. Would you recommend it in carbine form for the PROD?

2. The PROD has dovetails. Do I need to purchase different rings? If so, what size, so it will clear the magazine?

2. Any alternatives at that price point?

Thanks, Ramon

If you do order a bug buster just order it with the rings you need. Can be had in dove take and pic rail.

I have one on my gamo urban it's very light and compact. It really forces you to have proper sight picture or you see the scope body.

I have the 2-7x32 Hawke on mine. The glass seems clearer than my many Bug busters I have.

I originally put a 3-9x32 BugBuster on my Prod but swapped it to a 3-9x40 AO Hawke Vantage. With the 1399 skeleton stock I found that the BugBuster was just a little too short and didn’t give me a very comfortable eye relief. The BugBuster works great on my bullpup Prod though.
Happy shooting

The vector veyron 3-12 sfp is about the same cost as a new bugbuster and is suppose to be way nicer.  I'm very happy with my 3-9 and 3-12 bugbusters. I unfortunately dont own a prod so I cant comment as to fit.

Oh I should also note that I have a 3x9 and to clarify what I said earlier sight picture also includes eye relief. In my opinion you cannot be sloppy with this scope which also IMO makes it better for repeatability.

I do not like to shoot my urban out past 30y, under 30 I am good, with much expectations I shake bad. At 30-50y the urban and my 3x9 really is pushing it for me. At 75y and I have done it and a friend can vouch I can hit a 10" target but I have to aim like 3 feet above it.

+1 Vector Veyron. Edgun Spain sells them and ships very fast. $210 to your door

I have the 3-12x32 Bugbuster on my P-rod in medium rings. It works great on the P-rod. Eye relief is not a problem.

Bug Buster 3-9 been on my Prod since I got it, no need for anything more, compact scopes are known for shorter eye relief. Hits what I point it at every time.  ;) Rings are UTG Medium Dovetail BTW.

Thank you guys. Thank you for all of your replies. I purchased the UTG bug buster. It seems like it will be delivered before the gun arrives.  :o

The PROD looks nice with small scopes, yes.

for your price range I would go with a Athlon Optics Neos 4-12x40 Second Focal Plane Riflescopes

https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Second-Reticle/dp/B01APT0K1E/ref=pd_lpo_2?pd_rd_i=B01APT0JSI&th=1 (https://www.amazon.com/Athlon-Optics-Riflescope-Second-Reticle/dp/B01APT0K1E/ref=pd_lpo_2?pd_rd_i=B01APT0JSI&th=1)

and 1" Medium rings.

or a Athlon Optics Talos 3-12x40 Second Focal Plane Riflescopes

Not a PROD (stainless Don Cothran 2260 PCP), but you get the idea:

The bug buster is a perfect match for the Prod. So compact and lightweight. It's like it was designed for the prod.

I used a CVLIFE 4X fixed compact on my P'rod carbine. Now $29.00 on Amazon.

I target-shoot with mine, so the fat reticle of the UTG BB does not work for me.

My Clearidge RMs have ultra thin reticles, BTW.

The newer model of the bug buster with AO has a nice thin reticle. The older models were ridiculously fat.
