Title: Webley Eclipse on Estate Sale
Post by: Wunderwerks on May 31, 2022, 08:44:22 PM
There's one coming up in a couple of days. I've tried to find any example of ones that may have sold to get an idea of a value. Can't find even one that has sold.  Anyone have any suggestions or knowledge of what a value may be.  It looks to be in nice condition.

You can google it and see reviews. It appears to be a PCP pistol and carbine. I think they might be made in Spain.

Hi, condition affects them for sure.  I believe your talking about the English webley spring air rifle. I purchased one off gun broker a few years ago for a few hundred dollars, perfect shape looks unused in .25 which you don't see often.  Have seen 1 or 2 sell on eBay but not as nice but still bringing similar money.  There are mk1 and mk2 versions of i recall.  Under lever with a flip up tap.

Collector items now a stopped making them years ago and weble y no longer English made.  If suggest picking it up if the price is good.

There is very little information even on Google about this carbine air rifle.  Nothing on value or previous sale prices.  I'm wondering if it is so rare that parts are unavailable if needed or if there is even a market for it if the day comes that I would want to sell it.  All my air guns will be sold eventually, so I just don't want to latch onto something that nobody wants.

I see now. An older Webley underlever. Nice looking guns.

While I don't tend to pay much attention to what the Airgun Blue Book says about pricing, it does give a description of
the Eclipse and years produced. Looking at TW Chambers, while they don't have all, they do have some parts for one
and a diagram of the rifle: https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24520/Eclipse/ (https://www.gunspares.co.uk/products/24520/Eclipse/)

Great Information. I am struck with the fact that a lot of parts are no longer available.  Gunsmith prices at these gun values are not feasible. It's a gamble so I need to value it accordingly.

AFAIK, The Webley Eclipse was a mid-80's attempt by Webley to compete with the vastly popular HW77. To compete with Weihrauch, these underlever guns were made lighter in weight and safer to load than the HW77. So, the Eclipse had an aluminum compression chamber, and a special tilting loading gate that kept fingers completely isolated from the action, like on the later Diana 46.

Alas, most people considered the 77 a superior weapon, and the Webley company experienced one of the first impacts of their eventual downfall.

As I have been discovering with the old Brit gals, they will almost always need a new seal and spring, and of course fresh lube.
Dave Slade/Airgunwerks has been my go-to guy.
