Title: Trail XL gets first kill....[edited pic added]
Post by: 454 Big Block Chevy on August 31, 2010, 07:50:30 PM
unless Dave (rocker1) has taken game with it.  range was 52 yards.  first shot, i'm not sure where it hit.  the nutter fell off its tree, and grabbed another branch.  as it was trying to climb back up, i grabbed another pred, and sent it flying.  two solid THWOPS and she was done.   i am sure the first shot was the gut shot... it fell from the FPE and would have likely died... the second shot, took out the shoulderblade, and did not exit.  i will pull the pellet out and see what a 26 fpe predator does at 52 yards.  my CFX typically expands to ..30 caliber at 20 yds... i'm interested to see what this looks like.

OOOOH   . :o  I just finished supper.  ::)  But you really knocked the stuffings out of that squirrel.  Are you planning to remove every squirrel from the the Macon area? ;D

Nice shot. How high did you have to aim to hit the target at 52 yards? One mildot?

That Trail XL sure packs a punch. The exit wound must be nasty, the guts are visible on the other side.

i was holding a few CM over his head, i didn't pay attention to a mildot actually.  i know that the gun is point of aim out to 45 yards... from genes shootout.  i checked the AO, and it cleared up at about 55 yards and so i just aimed about an inch high, and touched off.  heard the pellet hit home, and the nutter dropped, but much to my surprise, she flipped around and pulled a bruce wayne and grabbed ahold of a branch.  i quickly reloaded as the nutter struggled, and shot about the tip of her head.  she fell dead as a nail.

The only thing that worries me about that gun is the high cheek rest. I'm guessing, after that shot, it's not an issue with you? :-)

Good shooting and a great pic.  Makes me even more anxious for nutter season to open here.  52 yards is definitely a shot to be proud of.  Congrats on a fine shot.

Nice 50+yd shots!  Good looking Trail XL too and it 's proven to be deadly in your hands.

Tomorrow is the 1st day of squirrel season here. I kind of feel sorry of the unsuspected ones that will end up on my plate, because I 've been watching them all summer :)

Good luck tomorrow Harry.  I'm already looking forward to your hunt.  I have to wait until November 1st for nutter season to open here on Long Island, what a bummer :(
Nail a nutter for me tomorrow  :)

Slingshots are typically deadly in my hands.  i only hunt, and so i've become quite adept at it.  Thanks for all the comments guys!!! you all rock!

Tomorrow's squirrel hunt will be for you Jeff.  It really stinks you have to wait until November.  However if I had 2 farms to hunt G-hogs on, I wouldn't mind as much that squirrel season starts a little late :)
Try and and hit the duck and veggie farms as soon as this heat wave is behind us.  It's supposed to be back to normal temps on Thursday I think and Friday is looking real nice.  Not sure about this Hurricane they are now talking about though!!  ???  :D

Very nice shot at 52 yards. What kind of groups are you getting with the preds? My brother has the same gun and has yet to find a "great pellet" for it.

currently, about 1/2 - 3/4 inch at 20 yds... not great... but i've ordered some FTT's and some JSB exacts, allong with 3 more tins of preds.  i gotta find something this gun likes.  its so powerful.  and i love the feel of it.

Where did you get those roles of 550 cord?  I've only seen riggers get that much 550 cord.  Oh by the way good shot on that nutter! Sometimes I wish we had nutters to shoot at but all we have here in West Texas is rattlesnakes, jackrabbits and horny toads.

Nice shot @ 53 yards. I'm looking forward to taking out flying rats at our local farmers barns!
