I was waiting for an opportunity to try and take my most recent rat with the AJP. I guess I waited too long because I had some competition this morning who beat me to it!
https://youtu.be/aIq0zk6ez0o
I was watching him on the Critter Cam when the Hawk swooped in and took him out! He ran for cover, but didn't make it. It all happened so fast, the motention sensor on the camera never picked it up, but I did hit the record button after he already had him!
Now, the wait begins for the next rat to happen along...

Cool video Paul, wish you could have caught the capture moment. Thanks for posting, and hopefully you'll have another one in a couple of days.

Great capture Paul! You were just a hair too late to shoot but I bet the Coppers hawk was glad you waited! That was one tough rat...didn't want to become part of your 24/7 buffet! LOL! Quick thinking to hit record though! Paul's National Geo Channel!

I came home from running errands last week and found what looked like someone butchered a feather pillow in my back yard. Upon closer inspection I found what was at one time the outer wear of a white pigeon
It have been dressed and prepared for dinner by I assume was our resident Cooper hawk. The feathers worked great for the small birds building nests.

I didn't even know it happened until after it was done! There was the rat and a Cardinal at the feed statio. suddenly they both took off toward the left and all I saw was what looked like a strong breeze blowing the branches and leaves on the left side of the screen. I had to watch for a bit before I realized the hawk was even there!

LOL! I was just watching him this morning. I was planning on pulling out the AJP and setting it up this afternoon. Oh well, so much for that plan! That rat went from being a Customer to the Main Course in a blink of an eye! ;D

I've found those pile of feathers in my backyard also, usually they were the remains of a Morning Dove! It was pretty cool to see it happen, even though I didn't really realize what happened until after the Hawk hopped out of the brush with the squirming little rodent in it's talons!

More years ago then I care to remember a photographer friend was shooting an outdoor wedding at our Louisville waterfront. The bride wanted to release white doves at the end of the ceremony. They really use white homing pigeons so they return to their owners. When they opened the cage and the birds took off a local Paragine falcon took notice, suddenly before anyone realized what happened white feathers were floating down onto the guest and the falcon had a meal for its young.

You've got some of the neatest wildlife videos. Every once in a while I find myself re-watching your videos on Y.T., very entertaining.

That's awesome! I wish I had one here to help me with the chipmunks.

Thank you! The critters are the stars, I just happen to be lucky enough to capter some of their antics on my cameras!

No you don't, taking them with an air gun is way more gratifying! ;D

I work night shift and sleep during the day so my time to hunt them is limited. I'm trying to squeeze out a few more minutes in the morning because they seem to be more active then.

Hawks are very helpful in keeping down the varmints, now they're starting to perch in trees at the state land because the leaves are out.
Many times I've watched hawks snatch red squirrels out of trees, they'll swoop down out of nowhere and snatch up chipmunks as well. 8)

That's Awesome video Paulie, the Hawk is cool, but stealing your Rat's.......? he could at least wait till you shoot the Rat, then it's an easy meal.... ;)

I know! I was waiting for an opportuntiy to try out my Wat-Wacker arros on the rat, I guess the Hawk justbecame impatient! Oh well, it might happen again, they are predicting rain all week and I've seen another rat out there, so he may strike again before I get a shot at him! That is unless I get too impatient and just take him out with an air rifle! ;D
