Title: Post Your Best (or maybe luckiest) Shots
Post by: BushWacker on May 18, 2022, 12:05:55 AM

I know we've all made that one shot we are happy or even surprised about. Sometimes calculated skill and other times pure luck. It could be a live target or just a super longshot in the wind or a lipstick cap at 100 yards or something, let's see or hear about 'em.

 Editing due to content.

I used to have the same gun, incredibly accurate.

LOL, I was! It's actually better if your POA doesn't match your POI when trying for small groups. When you shots hit where you're aiming, it can visually molest your POA, making it harder to find the same POA. When your shots land away from your POA, your POA stays clearly defined making it easier to shoot smaller groups. It's along the same lines of aim small, miss small. Try it, it works.

When I was just returning to air guns and found GTA, I bought a Beeman Silver Kodiak X2 from Wal-mart for $89
This was 3 shots at 30 yards.
The back stop was a piece of 3/4 oak plywood, so the pellets did not pass though and give the classic "one hole", but "stacked" one on top of the other.
Never to be duplicated again.

A few months ago I was able to split a pellet on an axe bit at I believe 20yds, iron sights, no scopes here.

And a couple years ago I made this perfect shot which I tried to replicate but could not.

My luckiest shot to date, 105 yards with a Diana 54 .22. Was trying to figure my hold over for the distance, unfortunately once I did, the following group wasn't as impressive as the first shot on target...
(I covered that first shot and colored in my other sighters)

4 out of 5 shots touching at 100yds. Haven't been able to match the group of four, Five sub MOA yes, but not touching.

I will give that a shot (pardon the pun).

I just got a tin of the Piranha's, I didn't think of them as a super-accurate but more of a good expansion pellet.  I haven't shot them yet but I hope to get groups like that.  I need them out a bit further like 30-40 yards, cross my fingers...

As a kid, I hit a bird on a power wire with a Crosman 760.

Even though I was trying my best, I didn't expect to actually hit it. The distance was however far a BB travels out of a Crosman 760 at 10 pump... over 4 seconds.

Sight picture was top of the front sight on the bird. Rear sight 2-3 inches below that.

Several years ago I saw a big fat "dove looking" bird across a steep valley in a snag about 80 yards line of sight from where I was.  I guessed at a holdover of about 5-6mil with a .177 break barrel.  I must have hit it right in the heart because it dropped like a rock.  It took me almost a half hour to climb down the ravine and back up the other side, quite frankly I didn't expect to find it because it was thick brush but there it was about 5-10 yards from the base of the snag laying there is open sight.  I could actually see the big arch of the pellet and it flew through the air and that might be my luckiest shot but at least it was what I was trying to do...

I can not post my luckiest shot as it was other than a bird target or furry critter ;)

I would just not discuss the shooting of any living thing unless you know what it is and you shot it in the correct season. Not telling anyone what to do, but if you do questionable things, it's not a good idea to talk about them.

if you read the rule of the hunting gate, which is where that type post belongs, it pretty much says that exact thing.

160 Yard Head shots on GS's with my Uragan .25, it amazed me how accurate this gun is at long distances, I shot several at that distance with about a 5 mil hold over and 1/2 a mil left windage on my Athlon Talos 4-16x40 scope set on 10x power, my scope was zeroed at 80 yards, I was shooting JSB MKll's at 880 fps.
it was kinda like this, but smaller....

I shot 6 Ground Squirrels at that distance, I estimate I was aiming about 8-9 ft above the squirrels the JSB MKll .25 pellets worked great, all together I shot 25 Squirrels that day.
my Buddy was shooting His Prod Carbine that day, He was picking off GS's at 60-70 yards, it amazed me how well it did, it was shooting Crosman hollow points at 700 fps.

That is super smart ... do similar when proofing accuracy potential & NOT POA /POI testing or adjusting.
