Are there any videos or written directions on how to replace a Hatsan Vortex piston? I have a 2 year old 135QE 0.25 cal. that has already lost all pressure. Apparently this is quite common. I've found quite a few videos on adjusting the pressure and working on the trigger but none on a straight forward replacement.

Im fixing to do a 95 vortex . Just should be like the spring except its a ram.
Ive never did a hatsan but looking its the trigger thats you got to eatch and that spring and ball in the safety..
Anyway should be have it in your compressor with a little pressure then remove the last pin then back it off till it's all loose then remove the guts as normal.
Like you ill be finding out any hatsan surprise as i go i guess.
Should be the same but a ram instead of a spring?

Then i guess its what type ram you need and if available.
A 95 i think is a type 1. Not easy to get outside of hatsan support?

Mine is a type 2 piston, $47.95 with shipping from Hatsan.

Sounds good... May start on mine tonight if i get feeling froggy... This one works but got a monning groning scraping when its cocking and started smoking pretty good when it was not before. Figured i best do some prevent on ot and see if somthings out of wack.. cant be normal ... lol.

Well on the 95 the 2 things to mind are the trigger assembly it just falls in 3 peices if you pull the holding pins out .. but hold the thing with your hand pull it out and carefully set it aside keeping it all together.
I did put a short dummy pin in the sher hole one to help keep it together. Then the safety lever . I pulled it out keeping my hand on the lever so the spring and ball did not pop out and wraped tape around it in one piece
Now the ram had little to no preload on it. Maybe a 1/4" worth so unlike a spring it did not look to just "spring" out on me. Pretty easy but still had the clamp on it just in case.
Anyway the trigger is the hard part ...lol.
-
Well, I got the new piston in but now when I cock it, it doesn't catch >:(. Probably something with the trigger because it did come apart when I removed it :-\.
-
Well..lol. I should be caught up with you tomorrow when i get back on mine..
I did use a dummy pin in that spot that holds all the guts in place so maybe ill get lucky ?
That Jenga trigger assembly is a feat of engineering.. remove one piece and the whole thing falls apart.
Anyway i ran out of cleaner so i should be cleaning it up, lubing it , and reassembly if things dont pop up through out the day tomorrow..
Im sure somthing will jinx me and ill have to do a rework on it ...lol

Thanks all for the help. I got the gun fixed. Steve, thanks for the link. The video entitled "pt. 1 of 2 Hatsan 125/135 " by Mike Ellingsworth showed exactly what I needed to know to fix my problem.

Thats a good deal...👍
I had to call the trigger a few choice words myself today anyway... Lol... But its in and looks good to go..
Enjoy.

I checked the velocity with the new piston and found it to be 69 fps slower than the original piston. I was getting 665 fps with 31 gr. RWS Superdomes and only 596 fps with the new piston.

Cant help you on that . I sometimes think some parts are not quite first quality .
In that it could be a good piston but did not get filled the correct amount so it went parys instead of new gun. Like i say i just kinda suspect these things now a days.
If you had a pcp handpump with a good guage and a fill probe then you could adjust it out as you need.
Thats all i know and aint got no experience out side what i read and see in vids as well.
Then you sire the piston seal did not get damaged or somthing ? I assume you pulled it out and inspected cleaned and relubed if looking ok?

You can fill the piston with a PCP hand pump, but you have to be very careful filling them. I don't think there is a easy way to bleed off too much pressure if you should overfill them.

Hi All,
I'm a newbie to air rifles and this web site. I've had my Hatsan 95 Vortex QE SAS.177 for 4 years +/-. I did not use it much until recently - plinking varmints in my yard. I added a Hawk scope a while ago and was able to take them out at 10-20 yards. A month ago, it started misbehaving and I couldn't hit anything. I checked against a target and would say I was 4-6 inches too low. A few more days later, after re-adjusting the scope, it started to misfire. It would make a PHRRRRMP! noise and not fire the pellet. I could push pellet into barrel and it would at least shoot it out. Then it wouldn't any more.
I took it apart (thank you Mike Ellingsworth). I did not know about the tissue paper test. The thing is, I did not have to use a spring compressor to get the safety/end piece out of the receiver. Now, with the ram out, I can push down with just my limited arm strength and it compresses to the limit. Is it shot? I have a video, but it is pretty much what I said. I stored the rifle flat for all these years which I read is not ideal.
I was thinking it was a bad piston seal and so researched where to get parts. I'm really dismayed at the difficulty of finding a supplier and then the complications of how to order (Hatsan USA or Australia???).
I appreciate any help the you all can give me.
Thanks, John

The vortex ram in your 95 has failed. Two small o rings have gotten hard with age and can't hold the pressure. Hatsan USA can sell you a new ram and you will need a spring compressor to get it back in. Mike Ellingsworth videos on YouTube can help with assembly.
I have 3 135qe and they have all failed oldest first regardless of shot count. The latest one just happened and I will rebuild the ram which requires replacing the o rings and pumping the cylinder back up with a hand pump and Hatsan fill probe but do not overfill as the shot cycle will loosen your fillings and affect accuracy.
Wisdom of the forum is to store them muzzle down to keep the o rings in contact with small amount of silicone grease inside the ram.

Your Piston should be the Type 1 I believe. It should be printed on the piston.
It is rebuildable. It should also have a bleed screw on the side as mine does.
You can buy better o-rings from several sources, rebuild it, then pump it up with a hand pump or compressor.
Should you pump to high? If it has the bleed screw just bleed it off and try again.

Thank you CellarRat and Privateer.
I'm glad you could confirm the demise of my Vortex Air Ram. I've started the ordering process from Hatsan USA. I understand the lead time might be lengthy. The video from Mike E. for "Hatsan 125/135 Important Information" mentions using Crosman (and another ram) but I cannot find any xref's for which one(s) might work. At my skill level, it's probably not advisable.
I want to get some seals so I have spares. The factory seal seems very hard but I will probably get 2 anyway. I see VortekProducts.com has some. Last week they did not seem to have them. CustomeSeals.com seems a good bet but, again, there is a long lead time. It looks like airrifleheadquarters.com might have them but, being a newbie, I'm not sure I would get very far. Jim M. might not want to work with me?
Appreciate any insights/advise
John

PM me your address and I'll send you a couple Piston seals if you want them.
I'm cleaning house and giving things away.
Heck. I'd trade Gas rams with you if you'd like.

I replaced the dead Vortex III in a Hatsan edge with a Crosman NP.
Could have also used an NP2, but didn't have one at the time.
The swap required making an aluminum centering button for one end, but simple.
The Crosman NP is WAY less costly than the Hatsan part.

Attached pic of Hatsan 95 Vortex ram and piston (.177). The Hatsan website says it's type 1-B but printing on the ram says type 1 (only). The length of the ram is 387 mm. Length of the piston is 181 mm. Diameter of piston seal is 27mm.

I have a type 6 piston that I need o rings do you know what size?I am destroying them in the process of removing and can't really measure.I have not gotten a response from Hatsan about replacement piston but orings would be cheaper and then can repair when it fails again
