Title: 250-41-FN-BK2 2 Cavity
Post by: Tonycalves on March 24, 2022, 02:24:07 AM
I finally got it. I've wanted this round since I first seen it. Looks like a tremendious hunting round in(fingers cross accurate across a wide range of fps) the airguns I have.

I lucked out the MP6.35s group well in the low fps I've been using them. Even @ 636fps they are very leathal.  Hopefully the 250-41 will be as forgiving.

I shot a weasel with one of those slugs using a modified 25 cal Xisico Sentry prototype doing about 50fpe at about 35 yards in May 2016.  I have one of the older molds that's got the Lyman HP pin, I'd like to have the RG2 mold but the old mold works just fine.

I have the same mold, but haven't had a chance to cast any pills yet. I got the two cav mold without HP pins.

Finally got a chance to cast a few. They dropped 38.2-38.6 grain mostly.

In my Compact Impact on low they patterend like a shotgun. On MAX 711fps for 43fpe they were going into a nickel size hole @ 25 yards unsized. So I think that's a good start.

They got hung up on the pins. I just got super fine sandpaper to polish them.

The 2 cavities definitely goes slower then the 6 cavity MP molds.

But steel or brass 4+ cavity get HEAVY. I know I'm kind of old and definitely have other issues with wrist (and now some grip) strength, but working my Lyman 4 cavity is just not fun. I can turn out a little over 100 in a session before I'm done. I think I need to sell it and buy the 2 cavity version, but need to test accuracy first, if they don't group better now that I have the rifle problem worked out then no sense in having the 2 cavity.

Overall, I like 2 cavity molds, and aluminum. Even my big 50 cal molds I can turn out a couple hours worth of ammo. I'm far more productive with them. My 2 cavity Lee 357 I can turn out 200 and not really think about the effort.

That said, the flapper style pins in the NOE are not good to me, far better results in the bigger 88 grain 357, but still better experience with the flat nose pins. They just aren't working for me, and MP does not have some of these designs, no 22 or 25 pellets, the light weight 357 hasn't been in stock and no email alerts for 2 years now.

I need to polish all of my HP pins, they are all pretty grabby if you add any tin to the melt. With pure lead they go much easier.

I'm torn between my two cavity brass and aluminum molds. If I could only buy aluminum molds, I would only get them without HP pins. The brass molds cast better when pins are involved, but the trade off is weight. My only aluminum two cavity mold is the same as the OP, but without HP pins. Even though it only has two cavities I can cast more projectiles in a set time compared to my four cavity pellet mold with pins. The fiddly pins just take time to seat and shake the projectiles loose.
