Title: Fun with Feinwerkbau
Post by: bchannell on March 16, 2022, 07:30:24 PM
I recently went on a binge and bought four FWB 300s Junior rifles, two 1st gen and 2 2nd gen. The two first gen were in sorry shape with broken springs, and disintegrated seals and bumpers, and with stocks in sorry shape. Well, I quickly half ars rebuilt the first one just to see if it would shoot and it did, so it's on the bench waiting for a full on rebuild. The second one, I went over thoroughly and replaced breach seal and bumper, took one broken spring from one gun and one from the other to have a complete two spring setup for this gun, Everything was gone over and put back together. I fired two shots to make sure the sledge worked as it should and then fired two 5 shot groups with cheap Daisy ammo and H&N sport ammo. The pics below speak for themselves. They were shot off my retaining wall as a rest off a cardboard box as a hurried test to see how they shot. The really funny part of this is that a couple days ago I found out why I'm having so much trouble seeing, I have cataracts and you'd be surprised if you could see what I see when I look through peep sights, ghosts, double images, etc, but evidently I see the same every time, cause them ain't too bad. Can't wait to see what it's like after lens implants.
Some people like to bash Daisy cheap pellets, but as you can see, they don't shoot bad at 20 yards. Hard to argue with success.
Gotta love those old FWB 300s rifles, they are the timeless engineering that still amazes me.

I shot cheap stuff thru mine and they shot everything I could feed them well.  My favorite springers.

I would call that a binge plus. ;)

It was quite a binge. I bought one, then in looking for parts bought number two. Then a better condition number 3 and then a really nice 2nd Gen came along. I've wanted a Junior for a long time. Had one a few years ago that was my favorite rifle and foolishly sold it. Then they were hard to find for a while. Then I got cataracts that I thought were some other vision problem that kept me from shooting open sights. When I found out my vision could be corrected and even with the bad vision I can shoot decent I guess I went overboard. But I love those older FWB target guns so I'll call it a semi retirement gift to myself. I probably have the price of an FX crown in all of them. So it's all good.

I own a FWB 300 purchased in the mid 80’s & it still functions perfectly. A great rifle that new disappoints.

I don't have any "high end" guns, everything I own was bought under $700...
But to me, I can't imagine anything, at any price, shooting better than my old FWB 300S.

I will get out a variety to shoot on occasion then I'll grab "alte Frau" and after the first shot immediately smile.

My 300s within it's limitations will outshoot anything newer that I have, It still sports the original sights, never tried a scope on it.   I recently got a pack of 10meter air gun targets and need to get it out and do some shooting.  Yesterday  I marked some spots in the yard for ten meters, 50 feet, 25 , 30 yards, and 100 feet, the maximum my tape measure would reach.  I could have piggybacked some measures, and may still do that as I can easily go another 50 feet, giving me 150 feet or 50 yards.

There are lots of guns that shoot harder, but not many that are as accurate. No other gun I've shot has as interesting a trigger. You take up the first stage, the a breath more fires the gun and when the action moves you're instantly holding nothing. A very cool trigger.

That's about when I got mine.  An older aunt died and left  all her sisters quite a bit, five in all.  My mother had some upgrades to the house made, and then gave my sister and I some cash. It happened to be enough to buy a FWB300s, which I did.
I got it out this afternoon and set some 10 meter airgun targets up and started checking the zero.  Played with it a while, and finally shot one target with 5 ten ring shots, using the factory double aperture and decided it was time to stop. I have an eye problem with too many floaters to count and the light coming from behind did not help.  I had an old patio umbrella that is an open weave letting about 80% of the light through, so after I finished I moved it and put a solid one up so I can be able to shoot in the summer and have a spot of shade.

You have to love these guns. From the first one to the last one, the QC is impeccable and they are absolutely Shooters with a capital S.

I've done the cataracts thing, and understand exactly what you are seeing. Having surgery was one of my best moves ever...!
