Long production run. Old school charm.
Frequently recommended as the best "bang for your buck" starter gun.
The model that seems like it might be the last springer Diana ever discontinues.
So, just for fun, I ask the crowd what three things about the 34 are its best attributes?
Bonus question - which years were the best combination of quality and design?
I'm guessing that the trigger changes will play a big role in that assessment....
Enjoy!

1 Mine has hit beer CAPS at 35 yards with open sites
2 Have taken racoons with it.
3 Just having fun killing cans with it in the back yard ;D

Not sure if my 340 N-tec qualities. The hogs back stock design is the best stock design of a sporter rifle I have ever seen!
There you have it the best feature ever. Deadly accurate, reliable, all good. Best sportster stock ever, the BEST ATTRIBUTE. ;D

Yogi - you should post a pic of your 340.
I think they are very sharp looking.
I'd like to own one someday, never get tired of looking at them!
-
I like 34s for accuracy, good triggers, and relatively low cost.
I like the T01 era the best for the sights and engraved markings.
-
I'd have to say value, accuracy, and model longevity. Although Diana kept the model number with the new 34 they've made enough changes that I feel it should have had a new model number.
-
I had one for several years I hated it when I got it and still hate it today.

Thats the first time I've heard anyone say THAT!
What makes it hate-worthy for you?

I bought an RWS 36 (a 34 with a nicer stock) when they first came out. That gun was had so much twang, vibration, and recoil that I couldn't hit anything with it, plus it was unpleasant to shoot. From the testimonials that I constantly read about now, something must have changed.
I now have two identical untuned BAM (Xisico) B25H (https://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2012/06/b25h-breakbarrel-rifle-with-a-bamboo-stock-part-1/) rifles, which are Chinese-made clones of the Diana 34, but with a bamboo stock, and they are just as powerful as my German-made 36, but so much smoother, easier, and more enjoyable to shoot, and incredibly accurate as well.
Maybe the design has been tweaked over time, but I understand where Kragman1 is coming from.

I have both Diana 34 and 340 gas ram. I prefer the 340. My 340 has curly walnut stock. I agree wth Yogi, best stock ever. Very smooth shot cycle.
The spring 34 is nice too!

+1
I had great luck with all my 34s, then i met a fella with a 36... life change. now i have 2 of them, no 34s. one is rifle sized and the other is carbine sized. both of them are ridiculously accurate and smooth. My carbine is a 12 FPE gun and it will shoot so smoothly that you think is a soft ram. By the way, T01 all the way.

I recently acquired a 36, and I agree- what a difference the stock makes!
I'd love to find a 36C someday.

A few years back SteveP-52 had gifted me a Xisico XS-25 (34 clone) and I really enjoyed it and that gave rise to the purchase of a Ruger Air Hawk and then when I read that Numrich had a Diana 34 .177 on sale for $199.00 and since it had been discontinued by Diana I felt if I was ever going to buy one I should.
It is not as accurate as my Weihrauch made rifles but it's very close.
I brought it out and shot it today. It's sighted in at 30 yards and today I was popping 1-3/8" spinners at 35 yards. I have a Hawke 4-12x40AO with an etched glass AMX reticle on it and its a joy to shoot. The TO6 trigger is nice.

It’s very barrel heavy it has the t05 trigger no matter how I adjust it I don’t like it. And fliers I tuned the gun then had someone else tune it still shoots goo a couple shots then a flier .

You just described the 2002 D34 .177 T01 I found in a gun shop cheap. Only rifle in close to 50 that no matter what hold, pellet or anything else I tried, was just all over the place. I have everything to tear it down and make the mods, just need to get around to it one of these days.
That said I also have a custom made by Diana D34K .20 that's a night and day difference from the little beast of a .177 and an absolute joy to shoot.
-
I have a Meistershuste in .177.
1. Love the carbine length
2. T06 trigger is phenomenal.
3. Time tested durable design
-
T06 Trigger
Solid
Ergonomics
Shines the best in .22 imho.
-
It is alot more friendly and fun to pick up and shoot vs my 9lb scoped FWB sport. Shoots well just less serious.
-
I have 3 of them. And they are not my favorite. The only thing for me in thier favor is a good trigger, and lots of power. They just don't feel nearly as nice as thier HW counterparts.

I enjoy shooting mine, it does have a good trigger it's just not as comfortable as my Weihrauch rifles or as accurate.

Yup. That's why the 30, 50, and 97s come out more.

I find it funny how a question about one gun turns into a comparison to other guns.
Clearly, we're bored and the "Groupie" mentality takes over, LOL!
Anyway, from my own VERY biased perspective, what makes the 34 a REALLY good gun is that it is "field-worthy".
It was not made to be a safe queen or a bench gun.
It was not made to win beauty contests.
It was made as a workhorse and has demonstrated over the 80+ years of the model, to be just that.
Is it a GREAT gun? Depends on WHAT you want it for. As a TRULY all-around gun, few guns can even come close.
Are they perfect OoB? Heck, NO! because airgunning has so many variations and angles that it would be impossible to check all the boxes and please everyone when the opinions run counter to each other to start with.
Are they easy to work on? Yup! Just two pins and you get to the heart of the machine.
After market kits and parts? you do not have enough fingers to count the companies that MAKE those.
So, with all the premises above, it is easy to see that the answer is that the 34 is a great design because it allows YOU to make whatever you need out of it, but MOSTLY, because it is a PRACTICAL gun.
The 34 EMS IS a 34 because, at its heart, it continues with the tradition and philosophy of the original 34.
Keep well and shoot straight!

The 34 was my 1st quality springer. It was pushing 8.44 JSBs supersonic with fantastic accuracy. I sent it to M.M. for a de-tune and it came back shooting 12 fpe with a sharp trigger and no twang.
I sold it because my right shoulder needed another surgery and the weight of the muzzle made it uncomfortable to shoot for long periods.
MOST ACCURATE springer I ever owned.
Accuracy
Tight barrel lockup
Great TO6 trigger

And this, ladies and gentlemen, says it ALL !!!
(And agree on the always -it starts to get boring rethoric- comparison by the Weihrauch brigade)

The price point is too far apart to be a fair comparison. Despite this, the Dianas generally perform just as well when it comes to measurable results.

Shhhhhh...if you call them too often, they will appear...lol

Today, on my patio, with my Diana 34 Classic sighted in at 30 yards, using 1-1/2 mildot holdover I shot this 5 shot group at 60 yds.
The OP asked what best about Diana 34's,
I'd say their accuracy.
-
Sheesh....
I can beat that group with one shot...!
;D

LOL, boy it was hard to pull the trigger on that 5th shot. I was shaking, knowing I was going to blow that group.

Nice shooting Dan!

FWIW-My 6 year old Diana 340 N-tec .22 ProCompact Lexus is prettier than ANY OEM Weihrauch product made in the last 10 years. Shoots darn well too. ;)
The laminated HW 77 & 97 are kind of close. :D

Thanks,
And I had that $17 slip-on recoil pad on it.

Wow. You weren't kidding - that IS a great fit!

Well mine is accurate,
easy to teach others to shoot springers,
looks nice and feels just like a rifle should,
is the first one I grab to dispatch varmints,
not fussy about pellets.
And it operates on the KISS principle,
it makes me smile when it pulls off a hard shot for me,
Kinda like a good old dog, always backs me up.
