Just assembled the hand pump for the origin, reading the fill directions it says rifle should be unloaded, cocked and on safe.
Should the rifle be cocked? Does it make a difference cocked or not?
After filling and bleeding the fill hose, will just the air in the hose bleed or will the air from the rifle escape with the hose bleeder left open?
I was hoping to use this thread for any general fill or usage questions for the umarex origin.
-
Typically many PCP need to be cocked when filling from empty or the air will escape.
Bleeding the air hose at the end of filling will not empty a properly functioning rifle—you can fill the rifle a bit and bleed the hose to check.
Please note I have no direct experience with the specific equipment you mentioned.
-
If the rifle is empty cocking the gun with take away the pressure from the poppet so air don't escape through the valve, if the rifle has air no need to cock.
open the bleed valve fast and no problem if you open it slowly air will follow from the air reservoir.

Thank you both.

15 pumps and I’m already at 1900psi.
-
60 pumps 2400. I lift 50-80 lbs regularly at work daily but this is getting pretty hard, doesn’t help I’m only 150lbs.
-
Try pumping a gun up to 4k PSI when you only weigh 115# wet.
-
I got to 3000psi at 135 pumps, now at 160 there is no change from the 135, still at 3k. I am using full strokes and waiting at top and bottom and stoping for about a minute between every 10 pumps over 120. Any suggestions?

Let your body do the work. I lock my elbows and flex my knees letting my body weight, all 200 lb of it, press the pump. Pump slowly, rest every 20 pumps or so, wait a few seconds at the bottom end of the stroke.

I am 145-150 # and to pump to 3000 psi and more is no problem, in the end is all technique and getting used to different motions in no time you will think it's nothing,.....guarantied :)

The gun gauge reads 3k the pump will say 3k then it’ll go down to 1k on the pump gauge while Im taking a break, the gun gauge remains at 3k, not bled and the first 2 pumps are pretty easy. Is this normal?
-
I think the pump is leaking. It takes 6 pumps to go from 1k to 3k after a break, after that it’s hard and if I stop I can hear air from the bottom of the pump rod, there is a plastic washer around the base of the pump that is wet. "dang"

Do you guys use plumbers tape on your connections? I think it may be the gauge, I tighter it down and the hiss seemed to go away. I hope I didn’t get a dud pump. I am using the slow pump, elbows locked, wait at top and bottom method.

I do believe the gauge wasn’t on tight enough, at around 2600 psi it would go lower as I took breaks and around 3000 I could hear hissing, I went with 15 pumps after twisting the gauge and I’m up to 3150ish, I’m going to call it there for now and wait for a response as to using plumbers tape on my connections. From what I’ve seen 3000 psi is just perfect for this gun, I can get 3 mags before refilling. I will go to 3600 on the fill once everything’s buttoned up.
-
First 10 test shots, 3100 - 2600 psi. Looks like I’ll get about 3 mags from 3000 or 4-5 at 3650. No scope mounted yet, I’m going to mount my buck rail 4x32 till my 3-9 x40 comes from Amazon.
Thing is quiet as heck, quieter than a magnum Kral springer.
Still hoping to get an answer on plumbers thread tape on my hand pump connection. Yay or nay?

I don’t know for certain about the plumbers/Teflon tape.
But try taking the gauge off completely, lube the orings with pure silicone oil or grease (RWS chamber lube works as well) and then tighten it back up.

Which o rings? The gauge doesn’t have an o ring, there seems to be a white plastic piece that the threaded part of the gauge seats/bottoms out against, should I put a drop of oil on that white piece? Thanks
-
The pure silicone oil won’t hurt anything.
Although just removing and retightening may resolve the leak. (That’s been my limited experience)
Post a pic or two if you can do so easily.
Hoping other folks chime in.

Yes you can use teflon tape, I use it often on probes or Foster fittings.

Thank you, I’m going to tape the hose, fittings and the gauge.

Never read a good thing about that bundled pump. That actually makes no sense as it seems it would basically be the same as the 50 dollar Amazon China pumps but maybe not?? I have two China pumps and have rebuilt one. They work well and are super easy to rebuild. I would trash the bundled pump and get one of the others if it continues.

Hello Drew,
I used Teflon Tape on all the fittings for my Origin and my Yong Heng air compressor. I was really careful applying the Tape on to the threads to be sure none of the Tape could get cut/tore loose and wind up in the equipment.
I have sold my Origin but loved the gun, it was extremely accurate at 50-yards, 10-shots that could be covered with a penny and also super quite.
I am 80-years old and just could not hand pump so I bought the compressor which would fill the gun in no time.
Be safe and have a great day,
ThomasT

Wishing you many more happy shooting years! And hoping I will reach them too :)

It won't hurt anything to use plumbers tape on the gauge threads, but the Umarex pumps threads are not a tapered pipe thread, so are not them primary means of sealing the gauge. The white washer you see in the hole is the seal for the gauge.
A drop of silicone oil would not hurt anteing either, just do not use petroleum based oil of any kind.
Do yourself a favor and order a $40-$50 hand pump off of Amazon as a backup. My Umarex pump was always giving me little problems. They were easy to fix, but the cheap Chinese pump I got has never given any problems at all.

"dang", Please help
I was just shooting, 3200 to 1900 psi 4 mags. On the 5th mag starting at 1800-1900 ish the 3rd shot sounded weak and was way low, looked at the gauge and it was completely evacuated of air. Cocked and removed mag, tried to decock and there is no air. Shet, is something wrong with the gun, why did it blow all the air in the final 3 shots? It should have taken it down only a few hundred psi to 1000 or so.
-
Same thing happened on my first Origin- Loss of shot count from 2000 psi. I sent mine back to Umarex and they returned me a brand new gun.
-
I believe that is due to the "Ever Pressure System". Happens on mine as well. Hopefully it will accept air from your hand pump. Sometimes when a gun is completely empty of air the only way to fill it is from a tank.
-
I think I figured out what was going on. Pumped back up to 2000 on pump which is about 1800 on the origin, took 11 shots, 10th shot sounded a lil off and was down to about 1600 on origin gauge, the 11 shot depleted it to 900 psi and I stopped. I think it might be the ever pressure system evacuating more are per shot when the psi is lower or maybe it’s just typical of a pcp to let out more air through the valve when it’s low.
Worked great, I’ll just keep an eye on the gauge if I’m under 2k and keep n ear on the volume change of the gun.
3000 psi will get me 5 mags at 15 yards with minimal change in poi on the pressure curve.
-
I think your guns ok after reading last post. When I lost shot count from 2000 psi I would only get two shots to red line which isn't right.
